Crossy
Not really much to add to the topic title really. There seems to be significant variation of opinion on the internet, everything from motor oil to canola or other veggie oil. So, here in sunny Thailand, what do you use?? jvs
I can not find any real chainbar oil over here so for the last ten years or so i am using the heaviest grade gear oil i can get. It is not sticky like real chain bar oil but it does the job. I don't know off hand what grade it is but just ask for the thickest gear oil. 1

KhunLA
Hot weather, heavier weight oil. I simply used 30W or 40W auto oil. Chainsaw still works fine after 11ish yrs of use. 1
farmerjo
My little electric chainsaw oil chamber leaks so we just use whatever 2nd hand oil we have. It's usually hydraulic oil from the tractor pto leak bucket. 1

sometime
Car gear oil, it doesn't run out & it clings to the bar/chain

Lacessit
Any 50% synthetic or full synthetic motor oil will do. Oils designed as specifically for chainsaws are more designed to drain the pockets of people who buy them.

Same brand as the saw and 11.5 inch on the packet and assured to fit by the salesman. Fil just told me yesterday they don't fit,to short.???? Wondered why he was taking so long as stopping to sharpen original one all the time. The fun will begin on Monday when i head back to the shop in search of the right ones.

I go to the general hardware nuts/bolts/batteries/tools/batteries/tractor spares shop in the big village and but it in a 5 litre container. I can't remember the price, but I decant it into a smaller bottle for easier use.
GregTN
Some automatic oiling saws require thicker oil to work properly and might be more prone to leaking when not in use with a thinner oil. I would recommend using normal bar and chain oil it is a little more expensive but not enough to break the bank. 1
