PaulAndSam
My wife and I will be in Pattaya on holiday on 14th April 2023. We would like to experience a Songkran. Could anybody please tell us if there is a water throwing event similar to pre-covid and what the date would be. Thanks for your help.
MJCM
Pattaya it always starts in the Bar areas around the 10th and last day has always been 19th. 12 minutes ago, PaulAndSam said: Could anybody please tell us if there is a water throwing event similar to pre-covid No one knows yet, it's still over 5 months away. Popular Post nikmar
it could be argued that Songkran is better experienced anywhere but Pattaya. I suppose it depends on whether you want culture or fun!! 2

It really is SO MUCH FUN getting soaked with dirty, cold water, even if you are riding a motorcycle, wearing a suit or carrying a laptop. 555 2 1 1

Since moving upcountry I DON'T miss that period of living in Pattaya 1 bit 1
Popular Post KhunBENQ
Quite likely there will be Songkran close to normal in 2023. If COVID still on the agenda we are doomed anyway???? April 15 being a Saturday. Expect partying from Sat 9 to Sun 16 followed by special in Pattaya until 19 or so. You know what to expect in Pattaya? There is a small fraction of lovers and a majority of haters. Some fleeing the place. Absolute turmoil nothing to do with tradition or culture. PaulAndSam
Thank you very much for the reply KhunBenQ. It seems that we have a very good chance of being in Pattaya during Songkran, if it is held next year.

Popular Post soi3eddie
13th, 14th (& 15th) will be biggest days of partying. One day is enough IMO. 1 1

Not for Pattaya it isn't. Pattaya main days are 18th and 19th. Mayhem then on these days. I hope you are not flying out on those days you will have to leave very early because traffic is grid locked. jimn
Its the same time every year it never changes. The last day is always 19th and starts as early as the 10th on some soi's. If you have never experienced it then fine. However most of us hate it and either go somewhere for 10 days or stay home. In the Bar areas in Pattaya they don't care. Witnessed (many years ago) a couple in evening attire going to a fancy party walking from their hotel to a taxi which was parked just across the road from the hotel. They just said no and many people were oke with it and didn't throw any water, but some ....... drunk farang unloaded a WHOLE bucket of water on them. He was then punched to the ground by the guy! Oke yes Official Holidays yes, but in Pattaya they already (in Bar areas that is) start as early as the 10th till the BIG day on the 19th. So 9 days of Songkran. Edit: There was great thread about it by JD (???) with all the questions you could have about Songkran answered but unfortunately it got removed. I know when Songkran is in my part of the world (Buriram) (official days that is) but I don't venture out and make sure that I have enough supplies to see me through it. Same when we lived in Pattaya, participated the first 2 years but after that stuck in the condo for x days. Still have a scar to remind me off it ???? Andycoops
The only reason Pattaya extends the Songkran festival beyond the normal 3 days observed across the nation, 13,14,15th is to extract more money from your pocket.
