Point system to curb traffic violations to be enforced from January 9th

Starting January 9th, the Royal Thai Police and the Land Transport Department will enforce a demerit point system to curb traffic violations and dangerous driving, in the hope increasing drivers’ discipline on Thailand’s infamous roads.

 

Each driving license holder will be given 12 points and they will be deducted for each violation they are caught committing. Point deductions are divided into four levels, depending on the severity of the violation.

 

One point will be deducted for using a cell phone while driving, not wearing a crash helmet on a motorcycle, not fastening the seatbelt, exceeding the speed limit, riding motorcycles on the pavement, failing to stop for pedestrians at zebra crossings, not giving way to emergency vehicles, reckless driving, driving without a license plate or with the license plate covered and not showing road tax sign.

The Thai boy racers will treat this as  a competition to see who can get the most points!!! So someone gets killed , do a runner abroad and the cops don't care.

and no driverslicense??? no points to deduct ....It is not the system it is the enforcement of the laws.. Start with a working policeforce 24 hrs a day and not from 9 to 5. and everyone has to show a license a t a checkpoint and not only the tax sticker on the window..

BANGKOK, Dec 1 (TNA) – Point deduction will start on Jan 9 next year on the drivers who violate traffic rules, said the national police chief.

 

Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittiprapas, the national police chief, said each licensed driver would have 12 points. Point deduction will happen in two forms.

Children leave school every day all over Thailand on motorbikes 3 pax on each bike no crash helmet no licence. Oh my where to begin.

If they are using CCTV evidence, how will they know who was driving the car? My wife drives my car. Her brother dives her car. My maid owns a pick-up and she doesn’t drive at all but her son in law drives it. And what about company owned vehicles?

 

A lot of people are going to say they lent the car to someone called Jiap who lives somewhere up country and they never knew his real name.

I thought it was three months from September. That means starting from yesterday. In any case, the traffic laws and their enforcers get another 5 weeks holiday from doing their job.

 

The whole thing is a joke (but I am not laughing). Points will only be deducted if one has a licence and if they are caught. 

 

The 365 dangerous days is the default position.

The vehicle owner is responsible for all infringements in such cases.... although I have no issue wrt fines in that case, it is unfair in the case of penalty points... ie only direct convictions. A pity, will never happen as police would have to work harder.

Thailand must have a ministry of silly talk..

They waffle all this stuff out and rarely do anything about it.

 

Basically you need a licence or registered vehicle to accrue  points.

Plus they say once you have been done for an offence,  you can't be done for that offence again that day!!
