Daily News Thai Caption: Come and take responsibility

Thai social media was calling a woman driving a Pajero "jai dam" (mean) after she hit a child outside a school in Sriracha, Chonburi.

Witnesses reported that she got out, told people to contact the rescue services as he didn't seem very badly hurt, then got back in her expensive vehicle and drove away.

The boy, named only as "A" by Daily News, suffered an injury to his left forearm.

The accident happened outside  Wat Rai Kluay school.

Most of the CCTV in the area was broken.

The media went to Surasak sub-district and found the boy and an elderly relative called Sangwian who both called on the woman to face up to what had happened and take responsibility.

Sangwian said she would have insurance, was in a nice car, and should have taken the boy to hospital or at least waited for relatives at the scene.

She intends to see the matter prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

A social media hunt is underway.

No mention of police involvement was made in this story.

Translate the word 'pajero' from Spanish and you'll get a truer meaning of what to call her.

Yes I have always been amused by that, especially when a pal bought one!

Since the kid sounded only slightly injured the choice is difficult, wait and be pilloried by relatives, or forced to hand over cash by police, everyone is awaiting this type of opportunity!

the Sergeant (?) refused flat out

S-i-L had car stolen.  Family arrested culprit. Fat officer at Dongtan refused to proceed without 10K up front.  The nurse car owner continued paying a bank loan for 4 years for a car she no longer had.

nah, the majority were never working in first place. a friend had her bag snatched in a busy area in bangkok with many cameras. she went to the police, apparently they were either dummy cameras or were never correctly set up...

When unknown assailants attempted to murder Sonthi(yellow shirt) most of the cameras on his route from Parliament to the gas station where the attempt took place were not working(according to the police) however the camera/s at the gas station did.

Someone missed that one and the film was damning and unforgettable. Private security cameras are usually maintained.

Even when CCTV's work here, they are only selectively used by the police.

A friend was recently hit by a car while on his bike in Pattaya, in a spot that was covered by 2 cameras.

He was not at fault and asked the police to review the camera footage but the Sergeant (?) refused flat out and said that my friend had to pay the car driver Baht 4,000, whether he was in the right or not.

The reason for this is that the car driver only had government insurance and that someone had to pay for the damages to the car.

At first my friend refused but was told that if he didn't pay they would impound both vehicles while they conducted an investigation and that he would then have to pay Baht 1,000 storage fee for every day that his bike was impounded.

After paying the Baht 4,000 my friend left the station before the other party, who probably had to give half of his windfall to the copper.
