I used Manereet Visa agency and I'm very happy with their service. I got the combo deal that gave me a 15-month Visa, accident insurance card, and Thai bank account.

You probably got a Non-Imm-O conversion (90 days) and then a retirement extension on that (+12 months). Not sure what the accident insurance card is but suspect it is the insurance banks are selling, as a condition to getting a bank account, 

You are probably locked in to using the agents again when it runs out, but that is no big deal and a long time away. You will need to do 90 day reports if you stay in country over 90 days, and if you do wish to travel out a Re-Entry Permit is needed. Care to mention how much that package cost you?

I believe it’s 23,000 for the conversion/extension + 3,500 for a bank account.
 

Maneerat include the first year’s 90 day reports but easy enough to do yourself online nowadays.

 

After the initial extension there is nothing stopping you from doing then yourself as long as you meet the requirements… 

 

i do keep 800K in the bank but still use Maneerat to do my extensions, costs 8,000 (12,500 if you don’t meet the requirement) to make life just that little bit easier (e.g I never need to go into the Immigration Office).

 

FWIW, I Highly recommend Maneerat.

By the book you would not qualify unless you got some money in the bank for 12 months. The renewal requirement required you to prove 800/400/800 kbaht for previous extension has been met. That is why I feel one is locked into agent use

always amazes me that folk that have never set foot in a visa agent's office, are somehow experts on the subject .....

If you are suggesting I have never stepped foot in an agents office you are wrong, was in one quite recently. How would you even know?

I've got a friend who used the agent route because he couldn't meet the requirements, when he came into some money and was able to it was just a case of paying a one-off fee, something like 10k, to get on the straight and narrow so not always a dead end.

Well that one off fee, might be to use an agent, but without the need to 'fake' the 800k requirement. As I did, as I am too lazy to queue up at immigration. A really awkward Immigration official could do serious things to a person in this situation...

I'm assuming that you didn't meet the financial requirements, hence the decision to go down the Agent route ??

Day 1 sort out passport, paperwork with Agent, Day 2 Agent goes to immigration to get the Visa & do the extension,  Day 3 pick-up passport with 15 months permission to stay.

Yes you're right it's a Non O + 1 Year. It cost 25K for the Visa and 3K for the Bangkok Bank account. They took me to immigration, escorted me to the front of the line, took my picture and I was out of there in 1 minute. From beginning to end everything took about 2-3 hours. Manareet said once my 15 months runs out I can renew for 12 months for 12.5K. If I do 27 months here I estimate the cost comes down to 1.5K(40K Total)a month.

2k for the NR-O and 1900 for the 1 year extension.

 

Only fools and destitutes need to use agents.

My agent asked me to obtain the passport style photographs from the nearby Kodak shop hence didn't need to go to Immigration Office. She organised a moto taxi to take me to Bangkok Bank where 'dedicated staff' opened a savings account for me. I was required to purchase 12 months 'one-off' accident insurance for 3,000 baht. As I moved out of the area immediately afterwards, my passport with Non O visa for three months together with 12 months extension (totalling 15 months) was posted onto me by my agent.

If you had 800 k in the bank for years, what was the procedure to prove that the money came from outside of Thailand for your NR-O?

The usual excuses are, they can't line up for 30 minutes as their time is too precious, or they don't trust Thai banks to keep the money in. Few admit to just being too skint to qualify being here legally. ????
