BANGKOK, Dec 14 (TNA) – The Land Transport Department raised 179 million baht for the government’s road safety fund from its recent auction of auspicious numbers of vehicle license plates. It also promised to support authorities’ examination of bidders.

Seksom Akraphand, deputy director-general of the department, said people were highly interested in the auction of 301 auspicious license plate numbers for passenger cars on Dec 10 and 11.

On the occasion, the “9 Kor Kor 9999” number drew 202 bids and its auction ended with the price of 45.09 million baht.

The department was aware of an allegation from the “Sai Mai Will Survive” group that owners of gambling websites were collecting auspicious license plate numbers instead of cash. The group asked the police and the Anti-Money Laundering Office to check the financial transactions of bidders.

road safety fund

Is there such a critter as road safety and if there is how much of these proceeds actually make it to the start line? Is it a road safety fund or a slush fund?
I don’t see much in the way of road safety initiatives that would need this much funding

What is special about the number?

Chinese believe in certain sets of number are good luck.  I remember a HK guy paying a lot for numbers plates like 888, 666,

4 's are consider bad " Death " although Chinese I don't believe in that B. S.  So when I went looking for property my competition was Chinese If the property had a 4 I knew it was mines???? come in low and sell high to a non Chinese.

Put the bong down now.

Take a deep breath and slowly exhale.

That was not what I wrote or intended to convey. You're overthinking,

Bong... you mean like a cymbol?

Not everyone is of that ilk.
