Thai motorbike rider dies after Russian man crashes his car into him in Rawai

Chalong – A Thai motorbike rider died after a car with a Russian driver crashed into him in Rawai.

The Chalong Police told the Phuket Express that they were notified of the accident at 9:40 P.M. last night (December 28th) on the Patak Road in Rawai.

 

Police, emergency responders and the Phuket Express arrived at the scene to find the damaged black car on the road. The driver, Mr. Igor Chub, 51, a Russian national, was waiting at the scene for relevant officials.

On that road btw are nearly always bikes parked onto the road. This narrows the road and with insufficient lighting this often requires sudden avoidance movements.

With the complete lack of detail/witnesses statement it's not ok to easily put the blame on Igor. If you know how motorcycle riders are behaving, lighting etc.

 

The new order of not naming nationality of foreigners hasn't made it to Phuket yet ????

I don,t think he can go to the temple to be a monk and say sorry for what happened.I see a large payout to the family and lots of problems for him now.Drunk driving, dangerous driving maybe a lots of problems are now happening

Was the motorbike stationary? No mention if alcohol was involved, or excessive speed, and police still investigating. The one accident I had, where I scraped the car in front of me (on a motorbike) vs. going down a ravine, during a sudden and hard braking event caused by a car pulling onto the road unexpectedly, ended up with police saying I was not at fault and the car pulling out would pay for the damages to the car I hit. What a surprise that was (I think everyone was glad I did not go down the ravine). Not sure I would have gotten off free like that in my home country in the same situation. Not all is gloom and doom here just because we are foreigners and easy pickings.

If you look at the pictures (in the article) you see the back of a Thai motorcycle destroyed and the front of a car. So the most likely explanation is the Russian hit the Thai from behind.
