If a new variant doesn't come out of those numbers it will be a miracle. Three months from now Thailand could be in deep doo da.  Hope not but given that a lot of infected Chinese will be arriving in the next few months seems pretty likely that history will repeat itself.

A variant of Omicron has been able to spread almost unchecked through the world’s largest population, a majority of whom have had no exposure to the virus and limited access to the latest vaccines or medicines.

I suppose which variant, and how dangerous it is will make all the difference.

This world is a circus...exactly what plan did they have to cascade their population down the line from rest of the world lockdowns.....None.

I think it was all the maskless world cup fans thst they feared would tip into riots and spread across the country as it was getting to that point prior to world cup ?

And for whatever reason I can guess, they accepted no western vaccines vs their own crappy ones...same as most arch-nemesis countries to US.

We may in fact be live TV entertainment for aliens.????

Not really "news" unless some type of documentation is presented.

If you are reporting that hospitals and crematoriums are full , it seems like photos or videos could be had and shown for a bit of verification of what you are saying.

This is a communist country I realize so no doubt more difficult to report on, so why do it?  Even the WHO cannot get reliable data from China, so doubt a reporter can

900 million (minus 1 percent or so) will have natural immunity to future infections...rather late to the party after 3 years of national sturm und drang but finally following the Western world and letting Covid rip.

The wont...and don't, have natural immunity though. Immunity in the population builds up over time. The xbb.1.5 variant has been detected in China, which largely escapes vaccines and past infections. So don't expect their waves of infection to be over anytime soon.

It's their fault for starting so late.

Nothing more than media hype, ITV trying to take the heat away from the UK, you don't need covid there to die.

When most people hear that phrase “humanitarian crisis”, they think “abroad”, “somewhere far away”, and certainly not in Britain. But how else to describe the tens of thousands of bodies avoidably piling up in the nation’s mortuaries? One funeral home worker says that they’ve run out of spaces for the deceased and “are having to keep some encoffined in office rooms”; another hospital porter reports that the mortuary has been near capacity for two weeks. This national issue should be splashed on every front page and leading every bulletin. It isn’t: why?
