10M baht theft from locker at Bangkok mall fitness center - man arrested who had key copied

Thai Rath reported that the thief who stole 10 million baht's worth of items from a locker at Fitness First in The Mall, Ngam Wong Wan, Bangkok, was arrested yesterday.

 

Narongphon Pongsothon, 37, from Ratchaburi, was arrested at a room in Seriphaph Condo in Ngam Wong Wan Soi 23 by police from Region 1, reported Thai Rath.

 

He admitted that he was a customer of the gym and had previously had a key copied.

He bided his time before opening a locker belonging to real estate businessman Sathit Wattano, 35, a resident of Thawee Wattana district in Bangkok.

 

The theft occurred on Tuesday of last week at 6pm when Sathit went to train after work. The victim reported 10 million baht's worth of items in his locker had gone missing.

Recovered from the condo were:

 

1. A Phra Somdej amulet.
2. A three baht weight gold necklace
3.A Hermes bracelet
4. Nudie jeans
5. Adidas Ultraboost shoes
6. Native training shoes
7.Training shorts
8.A bag
9. A Garuda brand medal

 

Narongphon was taken to Muang Nonthaburi police station for questioning as police sought a warrant.

Yeah, I was wondering about that...not sure how much a 3 baht weight gold necklace or a hermes bracelet adds up to.

The Phra Somdej amulet, IF it is genuine, As of 2013, a Phra Somdej Chitralada is worth at least two million baht.

Phra Somdej Chitralada are the amulets made by King Bhumibol himself and awarded from 1965 to 1970 to selected soldiers, policemen, government officers, and citizens.[9] No more than 3,000 of these amulets were made. It is quite a rare amulet and the value given is nearly 10 years old.

 

The value of such an amulet does not of course reflect the price paid for it, which is how much the buyer is prepared to pay, and if it is accompanied with certificate stating the name of the recipient, date, and amulet number.
