snoop1130
Twenty-two school children were injured, mostly suffering bruises, in a road accident involving a school van in Non Thai district of Thailand’s north-eastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima on Thursday morning. The driver of the van said that he was picking up kindergarten and primary students of the Sai Mit Non Thai School in Kampang sub-district. As the van was approaching a bend in the road, he said that he suddenly lost control of the steering and the vehicle skidded off the road and tipped onto its side before mounting the verge. He claims that he was not speeding. Popular Post Crossy
Glad the kids are all OK. I'm not an accident investigator, nor do I play one on TV AN. But: - Road looks rather dry, unprovoked skidding seems a remote possibility

Popular Post Elkski
Are there 24 seats in that van? Was it overloaded? Lucky not a massive loss of life. 2

Popular Post jcmj
Unfortunately they just squeeze as many as they can in the bus and hope for the best. Poor kids. So much for protecting their upcoming generations. Life is too cheap here. Sad, but true.
Popular Post Bangkok Barry
My wife was involved in a school van tipping over. One of the kids lost a leg, others were killed. She survived and ran home. That was 50 years ago. Nothing has really changed, has it. Same old same old.

Orinoco
No one truly cares about what drivers do on the roads here. Even on passenger service vehicles. Shame on you Thailand.

Crossy
Those single-wheel vans can get decidedly "lively" on the back with a load in. I drove a double-wheel Transit in the UK, stable as a rock, then I tried a Hiace in HK, scary with a full load. I'm really not surprised they fall off the road here with monotonous regularity considering the way they are driven ????

richard_smith237
He’ll be back driving school van’s within a week.... ... nothing will have been learned... it was not his fault, he wasn’t speeding... the van just fell over !... Neither will any of the decision makers have learned anything... The Van company will not have learned, they’ll want him back at the wheel as soon as possible.... it wasn’t his fault and they need to keep the business going. The school will keep using the same company, they need to keep using the van’s.... !!! -------- My Son was going on a School trip (from an Int’l school in Bkk) - he was 4 years old. I had questions: particularly about transport safety. The school’s response... they ‘outsource’ transport... not a good enough response, I followed up, they pushed the questions on to the van company. - No child seats, if we want to provide our own, they would use them. We did (something called a Mi-Fold) which the teacher installed and sent us photos... on the photo we saw other 4 year olds with the lap-belt (better than nothing). - They’d go with Police escort... better safety of other drivers around the vans I guess. - Drivers breathalyzed - IF found to be over the limit they’d be suspended for a day !!! This one shocked me for the obvious reasons... ’drink and they’d get a holiday’... no further punishment, there was no strong deterrent... I questioned if they really were breathalyzed every day of if that was just on paper and in reality nothing was happening (I never got a reply). The reality is in Thailand... we just have to put our trust in others and then hope. We can’t get too neurotic, but we have to ask sufficient questions to make sure others think and hope that makes a difference - the alternative is avoiding everything which is not a great option for living either. pedro01
A bus hit our car once and the driver claimed the brakes had failed. Fortunately, they miraculously fixed themselves on the drive to the police station.
