Not pensioner, correct.

Not retired, incorrect.

Boomer basher, rubbish.

Interesting you think every comment about some sort of tax, from any member, means they are "boomer bashing."  Who gives a rats what generation you are from when it comes to tax?

Cry me a rive, "boomer."  :cheesy:

cheap for a boat

Nothing is cheap back in Australia now.

The high cost of living is effecting Australian culture. Eg. a beer after work.

On a recent trip to Perth WA to celebrate my sons wedding I saw non of that. Restraunt pubs and such were busy and plentiful patrons spending  on average $AU50 per plate for lunchs etc. Admittedly most likely the mining sector was the reason in that area.  Same tho for supermarkets and general shopping, fast foods etc.

Yes, I don't think the demographic that you observed was a true representation of mainstream middle class Australia.

The same can be said of wealthy areas in Sydney.  Eg: the eastern suburbs and the north shore.

Maybe for a long GP appointment or a cheap specialist?

Standard GP appointment A$85 and get A$42.85 back.

Local beer on tap, schooner A$7.24 including cc fee.
Pub meal: Grain fed rump steak (250g) A$23 (chips and salad)

The above numbers are from middle class suburb 15km from the GPO.

We spend 6 months Phuket / 6 months Sydney. Although, it still costs us double in those 6 months living in Sydney (compared to Phuket) but the numbers in this thread are generally not typical unless you are living in a touristy spot.

There are a lot of people on welfare like this guy, and, like I said in another post, people like this get to vote, so both major parties have to throw money at welfare recipients come election time.

There are whole suburbs of house commission / welfare recipient locations.  Mount Druitt is / was one of the worse in Sydney.

How is this on topic, well, the government has to raise tax to give to guys like this, and what makes up a lot of the $12 cost of the schooner of beer at the pub, tax.

You missed the 'Tomorrow'bit!

I just tried to look up how many ounces are in a Schooner in Australia.  Apparently, there's no standard.  Sometimes it's about 10 OZ, sometimes 15 OZ.  Anyway, the typical America beer is 12 OZ, if you buy a bottle.

So if those $12 are Australian dollars, why all the fuss?  that sounds totally typical to me, as an American.

The front page news item you’re referring to was exactly 2 years ago this month!

No one is saying it’s still a “fuss”.
