The chief of the Royal Thai police has demanded that checkpoints throughout Thailand are run transparently and for the good of the public.

For the fleecing of the people.

He knows how it rolls and knew this was going on.

People are getting sick and tired of being robbed by the RTP, and now with social media highlighting tourists getting robbed it's time for a change.

Start with the man at the top.

Most Thai observers will say that is a given. The subject of corruption in the RTP has parallels with Italian authorities' efforts to rein in their mafia.

The RTP operate like a mafia, the officers extort money to feed the family heads.

One of the problems is you do get extorted by the police, who exactly do you complain to, the Police?

They need a independent body who can actually do something?

Facebook it seems to be... Though soon there probably would be some new Section expressly banning reports of defaming police with these recording postings

As the RTP are a part of the royal institute and ultimately answerable to the King why are these corrupt police not charged with lese majeste?

They have recently given a young man  20 years incarcerationfor protesting about the royal family on face book and there are people on a hunger strike protesting about the sentence .

The six policeman charged with extracting 30000 baht from a foreigner seems a far more serious offence that would make them never see the light of day again in there lives if compared to saying a few words on facebook if your suggestion should be implemented .

I am glad to see that a googje search pulls up all sorts of media sites now.  They do not really add all the details or any preface but they do say originally the police claimed the Taiwan gal was intoxicated.

Only once these swines are photographed and finger pointed, named with full name and address, fired on the spot - no honorable discharge, no transfer to "inactive" postings and nightly shows on TV of who got caught today .........

But as long as Khon Thai has not understood, that police and army are here for the people - and not the (present) opposite way - there is no hope for any changes.

Let's see, what Chuvits latest action will result in; I'm getting the popcorn in the meantime ............

I would suggest that any Tourist/Ex-Pat out there ensure they have helmets, insurance, Tax, do not speed. I expect the police on the street to arrest as many tourists as possible (who breach any law) charge them and fill up the jails. I would suggest people walk or get a taxi until it is determined how this will pan out.

Friend was hauled in soi Buchao. Treetown. Just Recently.

DIU.

Never showed the reading.

BiB many not in uniform just tee shirts demanded 20,000. Cash.

Or monkey house.

Mate could not pay.

So they took him to the ATM and accepted 10,000

Then pointed to the back streets to avoid any further stops.

This was the same time the big chief was summoned  to bangkok.

Under investigation.

The 2ic set up this sting and it's rumour that 100 farang fell foul of it that night.

Then with things remaining as they are and the RTP seemingly unable to stop extortion of tourists the continued social media coverage will eventually turn people away from Thailand.

So it is.

No loss if folks turn away.
