I am assuming they are a low budget cheap airline because their tickets are the cheapest.

I haven't flown with them, but have read that they have one of the highest cancellation/late rates.  A friend who works at Air Asia also said that airline often cancels or is late.

You pays your nit-noi money, you takes your chances.

I've flown a couple of times with them on the Surat Thani-Bangkok route.  Generally OK, late on a couple of occasions.

You will find people who had a flight in time and others unlucky.

 

A mate wanted to fly from Phuket to Bangkok with VietJet.

That was before Covid.

Flight was cancelled/delayed for multiple hours.

Not taking care in anyway not even dreaming of booking to another airline.

He spent many hours on Phuket airport with his family.

A lost day.

The age of their leased fleet varies wildly from 5 to 17 years.

(another low cost Thailand airline is worse :>)

 

I've done a few trip overseas with them. Typical low cost. Small seat pitch. That might affect you if you are on the larger side. Don't recall any of my flights being late pre or post covid.

Flew with them to Vietnam and return about 3 years ago pre covid, both flights on time and no issues whatsoever, I would use them again.

I switched to Vietnam Airlines a few years ago for my semi-regular BKK to SGN flights. Vietjet was always late, every time I checked in there was no gate assigned yet, there was little to no communication with gate passengers, and their cheapest fares typically do not include even one checked bag. Problem is, as just experienced, the fare hike was two levels up just to get checked luggage included, which put the fare well above the VN Air fare. And last, Vietjet seat room was economical, to say the least.
