Popular Post webfact
A Thai security guard at a pub at Bangkok’s Khaosan area has been dismissed after he allegedly slapped the face of a tourist accused of stealing a bottle of drinking water. The management of “The Club Khaosan” said, in a statement issued today (Sunday), that it regrets the incident, which occurred at about 2am this morning, during which a guard, identified as “Thongchai”, struck a tourist on the face twice and had him placed in handcuffs. The tourist claims that he did not intentionally steal the water, but thought that it was free for the pub’s customers. The management offered an apology to the tourist and is trying to locate the victim to compensate him for the incident, adding that it has filed a complaint with Chana Songkhram police against its former guard. -- © Copyright Thai PBS 2023-02-27 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. webfact
Pub Guard Blasted For Slapping, Handcuffing Foreigner by TNR Staff A screen-grab images of the pub guard slapping and questioning the tourist. The Thai headline in above photo says, “I did not steal.” Photos: Amarin TV THAI netizens heavily criticised a guard at a pub who was seen in a video clip posted on a Facebook page slapping and handcuffing a foreign man while accusing him of theft which the latter, who spoke Thai, denied, Amarin TV said. The Facebook user, Esornews2, said in the message, “Even as the foreigner was trying to explain it appears the pub’s guard did not listen to him and both threatened and slapped him in the face … this group of people should not be allowed to behave loutishly and damage the reputation of the country… a famous pub in Khao San.” The Facebook user added that lawyers and police have to be asked what right did the guard have to handcuff the tourist and whether this was wrong while mentioning that the guard only had the right to catch him and send him to the authorities with no right to physically assault anyone. webfact
Pub Bouncers in Bangkok Fired After Handcuffing and Slapping Foreign Pubgoer By Tanakorn Panyadee Bangkok — Pub bouncers in Bangkok have been fired following a viral video recording that appeared to show the bouncers handcuffing and slapping a foreign male customer in the face over a trivial misunderstanding. The viral incident happened at The Club Khaosan located on Bangkok’s well-known walking street of Khao San Road. It was recorded by a Thai passerby who later posted the recording on social media on Saturday night, February 25th. In the footage, two security guards from The Club Khaosan were seen arguing with a male foreigner about a bottle of water that the man had drunk. The guards said the man drank the water without paying, however, the foreigner claimed he thought the water was free. The argument then turned violent when the two bouncers “handcuffed” the foreign pubgoer and one of them slapped him in the face, according to the footage. If my life depended on it, I could NOT tell a soul where exactly Khao San Road is. Somewhere in a city of 8 million people??? I never even asked a taxi driver about it. Popular Post spidermike007
Give someone a bit of power, and there is a chance they might abuse it. Having said that, most in a position of power, tend to behave themselves. Except some American cops, some Thai cops, and some bouncers. He is the one who needs to be slapped around. 7 3

Popular Post Bangkok Barry
Just the often-seen Thai thing of cracking a nut with a sledgehammer. Thais so often appear to be incapable of moderation and have to go to extremes, be it driving at max speed, playing music at max volume or repeatedly kicking someone when they're on the ground. Asking. 'Did you know you have to pay for that water, sir?' obviously didn't occur to them. And I can't help but wonder if they would have done the same to a Thai. 13

Popular Post ikke1959
Thainess.... take a bottle of water and being handcuffed and slammed in the face.... and that for a bottle of overpriced water that the tourist thought it was free.... Mistakes can make everybody but the guards have surely no idea how to handle minor offences....

Popular Post 4MyEgo
Could this be Thai's finest bouncers, you know, the uneducated type, who are ready to pounce on tourists, the ones who contribute to Thailand's economy. Hmm, I think it's time for most Thai's to exit their xenophobia about foreigners. Hope this bouncer and his mate get charged instead of a wai and a 500 baht fine, but that won't happen.

Popular Post BangkokKnights
Khao San lost its old world charm many years ago. Now its just like any other over commercialised souless street in SEAsia. Expect to be overcharged and manhandled if you cant speak Thai with an aggressive bouncer. 2

ignore it
Happens everytime a time traveler goes to Khao San road. Back in the olden times (before there was a convenient store every hundred meters) used to be a pot of rainwater and a dipper outside of houses for travelers to quench their thurst. Or maybe he was just stupid high or drunk.
Chongalulu
In further developments all agreed it was a misunderstanding and it’s all "water under the bridge " now….which also has to be paid for. ????

Interesting that you've never been, have no intention of ever going, don't even know where it is, but you know there are better places to go. How can you live in a place for 34 years and be that ignorant of it? I'm not a massive fan of KSR, rarely go there, but I've had some good nights out down there in the past. I can't believe anyone can live here that long and have no idea where it is. 6
