Popular Post webfact Posted February 27, 2023 Popular Post Posted February 27, 2023 Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported on the aftermath of what they said was a highly damaging attack on a foreign tourist at a popular pub in the tourism area of Khao San Road, Bangkok. They also revealed that it was not an isolated incident. Police are also investigating an attack on a foreign tourist by a tuk-tuk driver after the tourist intervened following a collision between a taxi and the three wheeler. The tourist was slapped twice for his trouble. The first incident reportedly happened at The Club Khaosan, a club opened since 2007. Picture: Thai Rath A clip showed a guard or bouncer hitting a tourist and cuffing him. The guard claimed the tourist was stealing a bottle of water but the tourist thought it was free. Following the damaging incident for Thai tourism the chief of the Chana Songkhram police station, that sits at the head of Khao San Road took decisive action. Daily News had a picture of Pol Col Sanong Saengmanee striding down Khao San with the caption: Cannot Khaosan. Not on my patch. Daily News Thai Caption: "Cannot" Sanong acknowledged that neither the pub nor the tourist had yet filed a complaint but he was looking into whether there was more to the brief clip than met the eye. Police could take action themselves if the actions of the guard were sufficiently over the top. Regarding cuffing patrons, Sanong said that was an option for guards in cases where criminal activity had taken place. The pub had decided to close for three days to limit damage to their reputation. Sanong said that the incident over the bottle of water was a "misunderstanding". Picture: Thai Rath Yesterday evening Sanong instructed tourist police major Poramet Duangkaew to conduct a training seminar for bouncers and other security personnel from pubs and clubs in the area. They were told about their responsibilities towards tourists and what they could and couldn't do. They were also given advice about admitting underage patrons (under 20), weapons possession for guards and drug matters. The gathering was told that bouncers need to be "good hosts" for Thailand and their job was "not to assault tourists" no matter what happens. The police should be called if there is trouble. Thai Rath reported that another damning clip had emerged after a collision between a tuk-tuk and a taxi. A foreign tourist who saw what happened and blamed the tuk-tuk driver was slapped by the three-wheeler's driver twice for his trouble. The police plan to interview all concerned and work with agencies like the Department of Land Transport (DLT) to avoid a repeat. Popular Post ezzra Posted February 27, 2023 Popular Post Posted February 27, 2023 Do you really need to "train" people to assault tourists and other people in general? 3 3 1
Popular Post spidermike007 Posted February 27, 2023 Popular Post Posted February 27, 2023 Is this a new trend where they are calling out the establishment by name? That is a very healthy thing for society. Any culture that hides behind cowardly defamation laws cannot move forward, and is destined to stagnate. 7 1 3

Popular Post Classic Ray Posted February 27, 2023 Popular Post Posted February 27, 2023 I would suggest licensing and regulation of door security staff as they do in other countries but they can’t even regulate the police so that’s a waste of time. 3 1 4

The bouncers have to be reminded in very clear terms to ONLY assault tourists who are so wasted that they are unable to identify in which establishment they received their beat-down! No location, no crime!

To be clear: stealing 20 baht bottles of water is not OK, but you can't slap people for it, just make them pay. On the other hand, buying LSD, fake IDs, and bribing cops are all approved activities. Must be some confusing training! 2

It's always about damaging Thailand's image. Which to most that have mentioned the country to me is that it's a hub of ladyboys and prostitution. Right ! I’ve been coming to Thailand for long winters since 1984 . Then it was a far off exotic country , the biggest tourist fear was catching Malaria ! It was a different place, much more friendly , peaceful. Nowadays I spend less time due to Covid and complicated visa process, but when I do go, as lately, the people I know make comments on Thailand that are not very complimentary ! They wonder what draws me back to such a place , most of these people have been there in the last 10 years or so. Or the question « doesn’t the in your face « prostitution bother you , the poverty , the pollution ?? It’s hard to answer, I know I get used to it, even if I don’t like it at all.I just say I’ve found a quiet place to spend time through the winter, the best answer I have . 1 1
