Five sailors missing since the Royal Thai Navy ship the Sukhothai capsized in the Gulf of Thailand on December 19th 2022 have officially been declared lost while doing their duty.

The announcement was made by Defence Ministry general Sitthipon Musikasin in an order dated February 28th, reported Siam Rath.

The official declaration after a long search paves the way for the men's families to get compensation payments.

They are:

Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Jirawat Charoensin

Petty Officer 2nd Class Sophon Wongsanit

and three more junior officers:

Abdulasiz Malae, Chaichana Changwat and Thaweesak Sae-khiaw.
