Just had an appointment confirmed and see this beauty included at foot:

    • After you have applied for a new passport, you will not be able to travel on your current passport, but you will be able to keep it for identity purposes.

Is this actually true as lots can happen in the time it takes to receive a new passport.

Cheers

It is correct but the only time it might be an issue would be on entering the UK, nobody else will know it has been cancelled.  But it is actually less of an issue than when replacing in the UK, you also can't travel on it as you don't even have it.

Yes it is true, and renewing my passport recently took 13 weeks! But if genuine emergency travel is necessary you can apply to those wonderful people at the British Embassy for an emergency travel document.
