Well I have to agree a lot of us view Pattaya through the eyes of what we know from home.

 

First time I ever went to Pattaya was for a weekend trip when me my wife and son were living in Singapore.

 

I was kinda horrified by it all, it was just too in my face, I'm walking with my wife and son and being propositioned by hookers.

 

My wife is an odd duck, lived in Chicago through teenage and college years after her parents died, so she straddles both cultures.

 

She was much more sanguine about it than me, just remarking that they were just making a living as best they could

I didn't ask them, but it's common knowledge among those that actually know Thai bar girls rather than make comments about something they know little about. The difference between you and I is that I actually knew some of them for years to know, and it wasn't a full time occupation for them. It was just to make a bit of capital.

Common myths, not knowledge. Sex tourists and sex pats only want to hear about bar girl excuses and not reality. Most of us saw the reality of this depraved and socially damaging 'industry' 20-30 years ago, the fact that some old timers are still shelling out cash for sex and lapping up bar girl stories is either sad or amusing depending on your mood. I still look at sticks site and look at the photos and am baffled how anyone would want anything to do with the horrors posted on there sporting their guts, tattoos and teeth braces, - you can meet her in X bar, no thanks i'll leave that to lovers of rough badgers ????

I was never given a bar girl story, or excuses, so perhaps they are a myth.

 

Don't know what was on Stick's site, but all the ones I went with were slim, attractive and devoid of "guts" tattoos and teeth braces. Most were also very nice women that I was happy to know. More than can be said for many women I met in home country.

I never discussed why they did it, so that would be supposition on your part.

As for them supporting boyfriends ( they'd only be pimps if they were offering the girls to customers, which they don't do in Thailand- do you actually know anything about it other than what you read in scandal sheets? ), and gambling etc, what they did when they were not with me was their business.

Yeah, my step daughter finished uni 2 years back, my woman finished high school 10 years back. My 12 year old son is currently costing 12kbht/year in high school (she was in high school at his birth).
