Britons say BBC was wrong to suspend Gary Lineker

The public holds a favourable view of the presenter

Following the Match of the Day’s suspension by the BBC yesterday, presenters at several other BBC sports programmes have walked out in solidarity with Lineker, forcing the BBC to change their programming.

Now a new YouGov snap poll shows that Gary Lineker continues to have the public’s backing after the events of this week, with Britons having a favourable view of Gary Lineker by 50% to 30%.

When you add the people that voted No and the don't know you get 47%

and if you read the comments section of this article majority of people have little or no respect for YouGov

Maybe all polling should be done via the comments section of The Telegraph?

The comments section of the Telegraph............:cheesy: oh and my quote is directly from YouGov

Is that the same YouGov that their polling showed on the 23rd June 2016 Remain leading at  52%

You have to wonder what the Lineker poll result would have been if the question was phrased different and included the words "Highest paid BBC star at £1.35m per year

You think people don't know that anyway? You don't think there are people all over the media putting that out there at the moment? Complete misreading of the room I think.

Its safe to say anyone who has read or watched the news knows how much Lineker is making, but don't let that stop you referring to the comments section of the Telegraph eh.

Your off topic remain/leave vote was a very tight result and within the confidence levels at the time

Nice work @vinny41. Many a slip between fact and fiction.

I was having me tea, not that I would have complied with slip's order anyway. He seems to have delusions of grandeuer - him and Gary Lineker both.

Thank you for posting the link vinny41.  Apparently member "champers" is too important to follow the rules.

EDIT TO ADD:  There is no source to the only data which is that provided in the spectator link.  They are a tory rag so I'm afraid it doesn't cut the mustard.

Just think the millions that the BBC could save each year if they ditch all presenters and  commentators

And with the savings they would make they could re-introduce free TV  license's for the Over 75's

A quoted source is sufficient. No link required. Not sure I even know how  to post a link.

Viewing figures were up but at 20 mins long instead of 80 minutes and with no commentators I would guess it was more of a novelty must see.

Broadcaster Piers Morgan said in a tweet that Lineker’s suspension was “pathetically spineless.”

Again thanks for posting the links.  My comment about 'not cutting the mustard' was a personal one about sources I'm willing to trust.

Your first link is unfortunately useless as it is just a list of twitter comments pushing an unfounded opinion.  The second is better though.  I don't know what BARB is but at least it gives a potential anchor in reality and objectivity.  Funny it's a left wing tabloid though.

You can get know it all opinions on football in any pub. no need to waste millions on old footballers mouthing off, their opinions are no more valid than a pub drunk anyway. As Brian Clough said, more football less yak yak.

I value the opinion of someone in the know higher than that of proton.

Well, BBC Match of the Day was ridiculous - just 20 minutes of goal highlights.  No intro music either! Bring back the commentators and pundits!

Match of the day is for people who cannot use computers .

All the matches are screened live online
