Bad Stomach for 2 weeks.

Featured Replies

As the topic says I have had a bad stomach for 2 weeks now. It stared with bad nausia and I was vomiting and followed by bad diarriha. I have also had stomach pain and a feeling of being full all the time. I can control it by taking immodium which has allowed me to go to the gym but if I stop the diarriha comes back. It is getting very frustating now. I have tried Norfloxacn 400 tablets and also a course of Azithromycin, neither has worked. Any ideas on what I could try I would rather avoid the doctor or hospital. @Sheryl

Go and see a doctor.

activated charcoal tablets.

they bind to any poisons in the stomach and the poison will be flushed out.

if it's some type of food poisoning causing the problem.

i don't think the activated charcoal will cause any issues if it's sth else causing your problem.

disclaimer: for entertainment purposes only. always seek the advice of a qualified health practitioner

Please go and see a doctor, if Immodium isnt helping and antibiotics didnt stop diarrhea then it is something which needs to be investigated. Also stop Gym while you are sick.

Hope you feel better!!

NEVER take immodium for more than  three days.  Go to the nearest private international hospital  IMMEDIATELY.

You might be in grave danger with a serious infection that could  kill you.

Ignore the hysterical comments above. They're not going to help you get better. I was once in exactly your position so went to Bumrungrad. The doctor told me to lie on the exam table and pushed my stomach a few times. He wanted to check this didn't cause agony, which it didn't. He then asked me what I'd been eating and recommended I avoid dairy and return to my normal diet, then told me it should get better by itself, which it did.

From your description it seems like the worst of it is over but you just have some lingering symptoms. These should go away after a few more days. It's fine to continue using imodium to control it. Some people take it long term. You really only need to see a doctor if you lose a lot of weight, suffer pain or have blood in your stool.

Ignore this comment and heed the more hysteric comments above it. Go see a doctor!

If you've taken all the medication you say you have and you are still suffering after two weeks, it's nothing simple, go see a doctor now.

I would go in. Could be food poisoning. Vomiting and diarrhea is your body trying to get rid of something in your system. If the body can’t flush it out after several days you need meds from the dr to get rid of whatever it is.

The meds you took are either not strong enough, or the wrong type, or they just stopped the symptom by creating a barrier in your stomach.

You suffer for 2 weeks rather than go to a hospital day 3-5? You could had been ok already, if you hadn't some reason to avoid hospital.

When self medication doesn't work, most would go to hospital already. Doctor fee are from 500 up, depends, so why don't you want to consult a doctor?? Most know that Imodium shouldn't be taken for many days, you ignore this.

Go to a hospital today.

2 weeks of diarrhea is kinda unusual, probably is time to see a Dr, remember to buy any meds outside the hospital if you want to save money

First of all, you should not have self medicated with antibiotics, can greatly confuse the clinical picture and make accurate diagnosis difficult or even impossible, as well as upset your gut flora, perhaps unnecessarily.

You should also avoid immodium except when absolutely essential (e.g. have to make a lengthy trip) as the diarrhea is your body's way of removing pathogens or irritants Actovated charcoal - available at any 7-11   (CA-R-BON) may help with the diarrhea.

Viral gastroenteritis can occasionally last as long as 2 weeks but not much beyond that, if that is what it is, should pass within another few days.

If it persists beyond that there is no choice but to see a doctor, might be giardiasis or a bacterial infection and you need a stool test. (The antibiotics you took will make culturing bacteriam difficult).

The main stay of managing something like this is:

1. Stay well hydrated and replace electrolytes (can get powdered electrolyte drinks at any 7-11). You can gauge how well hydrated you are by the color and amount of your urine. It should be clear or just very kight yellow and in usual amount or more than usual if you are drinking a lot, as advised, will be more than usual and that is fine).

2, Rest

3. Activated charcoal can be taken and may help (will naturally make your stool black).

4. Eat bland foods (dry toast etc) and avoid any foods that seem to trigger it. Some people find it best to avoid dairy at such times.

See doctor if:

- there is fever

- there is blood or mucuous in the stool

-there is severe abdominal pain (beyond normal diarrhea cramps)

- you are unable to keep fluids down, or unable to stay hydrated (urine is darker than normal in color)

- the diarrhea is prolonged

If it is really 2 full weeks you already meet the last criteria.  Food poisoning will usually pass in a few days at most. Viral gastroenteritis seldom lasts more than 14 days.

Totally ignore this comment. If your body is doing this, then it is telling you something is wrong. Suggest you check out the symptoms with a doctor, if you have already and things still are not right then getting a second opinion from another doctor is worth doing.

You say you want to avoid seeing a doctor or going to a hospital, I think seeing a doctor is a better option than seeing an undertaker. So get a qualified check up instead of un-qualified quotes on here.
