Mung beans

Featured Replies

Am in Bueng Kan province and setting up growing bean sprouts.

As we buy the seeds (tua?) bit by bit was wondering if anyone knows where to buy bulk seeds.

Thanks Greg

Look around, ask around.  Someone local may be  growing them and you could buy direct in bulk.  If you mean the green mung beans, it's ถั่ว เขียว  Tua khǐao.

Years back my wife's grandma used to sell bean sprouts.  One of my farmer acquaintances sold her a big sack of beans one time, maybe 20 kilo.

Your area should be like ours, find a shop selling seed and fertilizer, sprays etc. they should sell Mung beans, they will sell it for seed, will the seed have any seed dressing on it ??you will have to ask last lot we brought a few years ago did not have any seed dressing on .

Or, not now to dry ask a local farmer if he will grow a rie or two.

Last lot we grew not a bad yield we got 500 kg from we think it was 7 rie.

Easy to grow, growing to harvest about 100 days.

No, I was wrong the wife just said 90 day, looking at my old records about right ,but they do not ripen evenly so say 100 days.
