webfact
British man and Thai woman arrested for human trafficking in Pattaya – VIDEO By Peter Roche Two individuals, a British man and a Thai woman, have been arrested on suspicion of human trafficking in Pattaya on April 5. Police raided the Flirt Bar, located on the infamous Soi 6 road, notorious for sex bars, prostitutes and the customers that exploit them. The raid resulted in the arrest of William Reece, a British citizen, and Jaranya Deeppair, a Thai citizen. Video of the raid shows several young women being taken into custody for questioning. Mr. Reece was led into the police station, apparently handcuffed. Police officers confirmed that the British man had arrest warrants issued against him on April 4 for allegedly conspiring to commit human trafficking. The story was originally reported by UK publication Daily Mail. The charges relate to young women who were being transported from impoverished areas in the rural northeast of Thailand to the sex industry to serve tourists. BestB
nothing different to any other bar. they did not find anything illegal, but were tasked with making some arrests so they slapped he human trafficking charges, which can mean dozens of different things and naturally will cost a fortune to get out of. Owner was not arrested, but will be interesting to see if owner will step up and bail out the manager as those silly managers are the ones to take the hit and end up behind bars

Not hard to legally obtain a work permit, Its all about how the person's work position is named. For instance, A foreigner might not be allowed a work permit as a "Bar Manager" but can obtain one for Customer (foreign tourist) Liason Manager position..........prolly best not to get seen serving drinks or writing chits though !! From now on I will be very skeptical when the term 'human trafficking' is used in Thailand. "...it was unlikely they were being held against their will". You need to read up on what constitutes human trafficking, there's more to it than that.
Kevin Taylor
On the Thailand forum today a proposal of a bill to legalise prostitution. It could happen, it would then make a mockery of these arrests. The present law I suppose was intended to protect the women. Like many such laws it seems to do the complete opposite.
Kalasin Jo
This story has already been covered here hasn't it? Now the sensationalist Daily Mail of UK latches on. Consistent shouty, right wing Tory policy supporting, gaslighter of the British public. Most of the British press is owned by seriously rich non domiciled British citizens or Murdoch and his empire. In the case of the Mail through a Trust company DMGT, itself owned by another company both controlled by Jonathan Harmsworth, 4th Viscount Rothermere, member of the House of Lords and with non domiciled UK tax status. When will all the other bars on Soi 6 be raided and carried to police station. Seems a case of missing connections/bribes. Being ferried: are they thrown in barred buses and carted to Pattaya? Carrying ankle tags to avoid fleeing? Hypocrisy to it's best. You forgot the starving homeless abandoned poverty stricken children roaming the streets of Isaan. markclover
Human trafficking - modern-day slavery that involves the illegal trade of human beings for exploitation or commercial gain. It often involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to recruit, transport, harbor, or control victims. So basically working? 1

I wouldn't describe the Daily Mail as "Right on " , "PC" or "Woke" It is a somewhat dated "right of center" tabloid rag catering to the traditional conservative moral sensitivities of mainly middle class housewives, members of the Women's institute and other such sanctimonious types Its stories are intended to produce a shock horror reaction from its readers, and its editorials invariably spew out righteous indignation regarding anything that they perceive threatens the "family values" of its readership. Articles involving Sex , (whether prostitution is involved or not) and people taking drugs are its life blood Its readers and writers are as you correctly stated "morons"
