Daily News Thai Caption: Getting ready

Following years of Songkran party cancellations due to the Covid-19 pandemic Songkran is back in Thailand.

And nowhere will tourists get a better bang for their buck than in Khao San Road, the famed tourist district of Bangkok.

That is the aim of Thai officials organizing safety and emergency procedures.

Officials organizing the event in the Banglampoo Street expect 30,000 visitors to the area between April 13-15, Thursday thru Saturday this week.

The Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt has said that tourist safety is the number one priority.

With that in mind police chiefs and Phra Nakhon district officials met at the Wat Chana Songkram School yesterday to make a Songkran plan.

There was the met 1 chief Pol Maj-Gen Attaporn Wongsirpreda, Chana Songkhram station chief Pol Col Sanong Saengmanee and district chief Samrit Sumalee joined by medical staff, business operators and security guards such as bouncers.

Sanong urged all present to be good hosts to the tourists.

Both ends of Khao San Road will have checkpoints to make sure illegal or inappropriate items are not brought in, the chief told Daily News.

There will also be five smaller checkpoints run by operators and their security with joint exercises rather than exclusivity being the key.

A medical emergency post has been organized outside the Krung Thai bank.

Emergency evacuation routes in the event of a problem have been put in place.

Attaporn said that 30,000 visitors were expected.

Prior to the pandemic Khao San was always one of Thailand's key Songkran water party events.

Officials are determined that this year's festivities - and mayhem - passes off peacefully now that it is back.
