Bicycle on train?

Featured Replies

Hello I am thinking of taking my bicycle on the train from Nong Khai to Bangkok. Is this possible, how much is it, and are there any details I need to know? Used to be possible, no box or folding needed, but that was 10 years ago.

Yeah they can do it.  I traveled with mine on third class rail and paid some piddly amount to put the bike onboard. If traveling from Nong Kai to BKK they'll probably put it in freight. But it is doable.

Google it, not all trains take bikes, I think the "rapid" trains do take it. From what I remember I paid around 120 baht from Hat Yai to Surat Thani last year.

This link gives an idea - its for motorcycles, however, the same principle applies that the train has to include a ‘cargo carriage’...

Most trains take bicycles. The ones without a freight car usually do not. i used to pay around 170 Baht for BKK to Hadyai. It's a lot more hassle free than getting a bicycle on a plane.

I have taken bicycles on trains from Bangkok to Nong Khai as well as Surat Thani and Ayutthaya numerous times since back in the 90's.  I never had a problem.  Even easier now with the internet.
