A MYANMAR man was found dead in his room in the Sathorn area after celebrating Songkran with his friends and it is suspected that he was infected with the new Omicron subvariant XBB. 1.16, Thai Rath newspaper said Monday afternoon (Apr. 17).

At 1 p.m. Pol. Lt. Col. Saranyapong Thongpan, an investigator at Wat Phraya Krai police station, was notified of a Myanmar man having died at a commercial building on Chan road  and went there to check with a forensic doctor from Chulalongkorn Hospital and rescuers Ruamkatanyu Foundation.

At the scene, a five-storey commercial building with the top floor divided into rooms, they found the body of Mr. Chan Aye, 34, lying on the floor. There was no sign of any violence and an ATK test showed he had been infected with Covid-19.

Residents told police that the deceased worked at a factory leaving early in the morning and returning late at night everyday. During Songkran holidays he only ran errands and celebrated the festival with his countrymen.

However two days ago he developed fever and had red eyes and it is likely he had caught the new Omicron strain which affects the eyes too. He refused to go get medical treatment and died this afternoon.

If this illness kills in 48 hours, then I better wish the wife a happy ending and get down soi 6 for the rest of the week

nonsense - maybe he had the flu or some othere health issue

even if he had covid - so what, the world has had enough of covid - move on

are you reporting health issues due to air quality - nope, a far bigger risk than covid

This is quite a simply a rubbish and irresponsible headline. So the test shows he was positive

Actually that test just shows someone tested positive; unless they do a DNA analysis to see if it matches his DNA, then who knows.

Maybe one of his mates showed it to him and said "you have Covid" and he died of shock?

If the police etc will automatically assume that a positive Covid test next to a corpse means "death by Covid", then seems like a positive test could be a useful way of covering up a death from other causes.

Is it any wonder how 7 million people died from covid worldwide.  With many never even tested for the virus.  Most (USA) with other health issues.

"CDC had "quietly" updated its data "to admit that only 6%" of those listed in the U.S. coronavirus death toll "actually died from COVID" and that "the other 94% had 2-3 other serious illnesses,"

They imply that an ATK test was found in his room. Ok no reason to doubt this. Was it his? Who knows but let's say it was. Positive? Yes. Positive with which strain? They are assuming that because he had red eyes it's XBB.1.16 but this to me is not good enough. Conjunctivitis is being shown to be one of the many usual Omicron symptoms but having red eyes does not mean you have conjunctivitis. So it's pure conjecture and although the article doesn't expilictly mention a causal link between testing postive and his death it is stongly implied.

But the results will not be released , just endless reports of dying WITH Covid , very few reports of dying because of covid

I think it is common knowledge that folk with various conditions, even none, have died from C19, just depends on how we are individually built....????

This is not news

Another news story in the Bangkok Post impending doom waiting for all the covid cases to break over the mixing of people's on Khao Sarn Rd over holiday. Just more fake hysteria. I'll bet anyone on this forum you won't see another article following about a massive outbreak of COVID-19 of any strain

Truth is out

@ 34 yrs old, not likely dying from covid, surely some other issues going on, if his positive test.

Even during the worst of covid, dying at the age (from (not with) covid) would be considered low risk.

Conspiracist thinking ... someone bumped him off and left a pos test there ... ????

The full article on https://thainewsroom.com/2023/04/17/myanmar-man-found-dead-likely-infected-with-new-omicron-strain/ contains this gem:

Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, permanent secretary of the Public Health Ministry, said this year’s Songkran celebration which took place after a three-year pause has seen people having close contact with others without wearing a face mask and it is expected that there will now be a spike in Covid cases.
