Turkish man assaults Pattaya restaurant worker, leaving him in a coma

PATTAYA -- During the Songkran festival in Pattaya, a Turkish man named Mustafa A. was arrested for assaulting a Thai restaurant worker.

 

According to reports, the worker poured water on Mr. A., who did not understand the tradition. In response, A. headbutted the worker and pushed him to the ground.

The worker, identified as Chadayuk T., suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and fell into a coma as a result of the attack. A. has been charged with causing serious injury to another person, reported Siam Rath.

 

Eyewitnesses reported that Mr A. had been involved in several altercations during the festival, including hitting two French tourists with a bottle, causing damage to a nearby marijuana shop.

Chadayuk, on the other hand, is a well-respected figure on Walking Street, where he works as a parking attendant. The incident has shocked the local community.

 

The incident highlights the importance of cultural sensitivity and respect during festivals and events, especially for those that may be unfamiliar to foreigners.

It also highlights the need for stricter measures to prevent violence and aggression in tourist areas. The police are currently investigating the case and are expected to bring A. to trial for his actions.

Turkish people are known to be hot headed type that resolves issues with their fists first, and that buffoon should have seen and know what is going on with the Songkran festivities and tradition he should have stayed at his hotel and not come out, now this idiot will pay dearly for his action in terms of compensation and jail time.

A nice idea, but I can't imagine many Thai people stopping to think about how a foreigner might feel about being pelted with water before doing so.  It would be interesting to see a Thailand where it happened though.  "Maybe we should think about how foreign people feel about things that to us seem fun but to them might feel like assault."  It might make the place a bit boring and less cheerful.

 

An annoying thing to happen, but not a proportionate response from the Turk.

 

Perhaps both Thais and foreigners alike need to be reminded of what will happen in the festival and how different people will feel differently about it.

They have a festival in Italy where everyone gets pelted with tomatoes. If you don't like it don't go, same with Songkran.

This Turk is obviously a violent man, and still free to walk about after his attack on the French, and now this, I sincerely hope he's not bailed, he should serve time and then be deported for life. IMO

............. walked past a shop in Dalyan, Turkey, years ago, the name of the owner was  emblazoned across the frontage......Mustafa Kipp.........shop was closed.

It's not the same at all. The tomato festival (which actually takes place in Spain) involves one fight that lasts for an hour in the town square.  It isn't days long and people only get pelted with tomatoes if they willingly attend.

Even though I may not participate, I think Songkran is great for the people. It allows them to have fun and to challenge their own inhibitions. Become more outgoing if you like. You can gently touch people’s faces whilst smearing them with paste, hug them. It’s up to you, as long as it’s done with a good heart. A great way to reconnect with the people around you. 
Of course there are going to be grumpy sods who don’t want to connect with anyone and people who abuse the privilege, but by and large people are having a good time playing with each other. Playing is the operative word. It’s playful fun. 
Every local that managed to catch me did so in a considered way. Spraying my torso instead of square in the face for instance, whilst riding.  Appreciated ????

Anybody's eyes? Are you saying the thousands of Thais and foreigners who attend are stupid because they don't agree with you? You "willingly attend" because you ventured out into areas where water is thrown. If you don't want to get wet stay indoors, or better still, don't come to Thailand during Songkran. Your post makes absolutely no sense.

If you are going on holiday and you didn’t know that Songkran would be taking place at that time, whose fault would that be?

I would get ready to party and have the best holiday ever. A great time to make new friends. People want to play, not be serious and grumpy all the time. 
Personally I found it fun trying to avoid getting soaked but was absolutely accepting when I got caught. It was HOT out there and I was dry again in a minute.  Perfect conditions for Songkran. I am absolutely happy for the people and hope they had the best time playing and having fun. Take it in good spirit, give back in good spirit if you can and share the love. Idiot tourist need to pay for his misdeeds and to be deported; not ever to return.

I think people should have the right to choose not to be soaked if they wish, but personally I would simply prepare myself for the eventuality of being hit by water.

Most people DID NOT splash me. The few who did so, carried it out in a considered way. A spray like rain, aiming for the torso instead of the head… I respect that behaviour and appreciated their consideration.
