Dear all,

Some Bangkok buses are very often completely full.

You can easily find double decker buses in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

Why there is no double decker bus in Bangkok?

Thanks

Probably because they would be packed, standing room only as they are now at rush hour, and would take for ever for someone to make their way down to the street at each stop, causing even more congestion.

They squeeze just as many on the buses now, as they would if 'legally' (no standing) using double deckers.

As stated, imagine all the wires they would take out, along with scooter driver being clotheslined that were near them when it happens.

Only have here for open roads, and as tourist attraction; tours and that silly dining bus line.

Thailand was never a British Colony?  Have you ever ridden a 2 deck bus upcountry (they do have them)?  Terrifying as you corner!  But in Bangkok suspect electric/phone service would be first victim and many walkovers/elevated trains would have to be even higher.  Don't even suggest it. ????

Those are the upcountry tourist defy gravity machines - not Bangkok bus service.

A question which could, I think, be equally posed for most major cities on this great planet of ours (if we are talking about public service, as distinct fron tourist, vehicles) - save for Singapore and KL as you have stated + Hong Kong and, of course, London.

Nobody mentioned a bus service.

There used to be, perhaps 15- 20 years ago.

Contempt for public transport users.  There was some big investment years ago, but they screwed it up as everything in Thailand, and 489 new buses were in dispute for some time, you can read up on this and guess why and how this situation happened...  Anyone know if they all got released in the end?

It's much easier to extract money from large billion dollar infra contracts - new railways, airports, airport extensions, highways, land surrounding dual track projects etc..
