Election Commission Concludes Unofficial Election Results

BANGKOK, May 15 (TNA) – The Election Commission reports unofficial election results with voter turnout of 75.22% and the victory of the Move Forward Party, winning the most seats in the lower house.

 

The EC chairman Itthiporn Boonpracong said out of all 52 million eligible voters, 39.2 million voters exercised their right in Sunday’s election or 75.22 per cent, the highest voter turnout in seven elections held by the EC. The election results are as follows:

 

MFP: 151 seats (112 constituency, 39 party-list)

No one has to wonder why the turnout was so big this time around now do they, yes a rhetorical question.  Looks like Thais around the country decided it was time that there voices were heard, and loud and clear it appears they were heard.

A clear mandate for change. I thought they would get >80%. The big take from this though is that out of the 39 million that voted MFP and PT represents around 24-25 million of that vote. That's a lot of people who are sick and tired of the military in govt. and want change. I don't think you can get a clearer mandate. It's also a lot of people who will not be happy if they are not listened to when it comes to the election of PM or worse one or both of the parties gets dissolved. Those trough feeding senators need to see this. Thailand moves forward which is the overwhelming will of the people or complete and utter chaos will ensue.

Agreed, but the EC was hand picked by the military government.

Do not underestimate their power and the desperation of the existing government.

Then, it will then mean protests on the streets and lots of people arrested. Probably under the LM section 112 laws. ????

I really do hope that I am wrong.

I hope you're wrong too because if you're not this country will explode. I think arrests would be looking on the bright side. There will be mass protests, the military will plant bombs like they did the last time and move in with another coup. Then blood will be spilt and this country will slide into ruin. I don't underestimate these mongrels but I also don't underestimate the Thai people. Let's hope sanity prevails and the will of the people wins out.

If the Senators don't listen to the people and vote some other coalition than Move Forward Party, then the Move Forward Party can move for a No-Confidence vote (not sure when they can do this) on whatever coalition gets voted in as PM.  The Senators don't vote in a No-Confidence vote and thus the coalition in power is overthrown ...

I don't think you are wrong.There is so much history/evidence piled up on how the unelected elites (armed forces, tame justice system, upper bureaucracy Thai-Chinese business conglomerates, the palace,the entire Senate etc) will react in a situation like this - although their rejection by the Thai people is more overwhelming than ever.These groups have no real understanding of enlightened self interest but possess a whole basket of tricks to defeat democracy.The process will not be quick and there are many legal remedies available to them.So prepare to be disappointed.

 

I believe the situation is very dangerous because there are millions of Thais, mainly young, who will not put up with the old devils.Many of these young disaffected Thais are in the armed forces.Think of the the implications of that.

Thailand has a Parliamentary system. The prime minister needs a majority of the lower house to vote for legislation to pass anything.

Prepare to be disappointed or to get the hell out.

 

Because, in all likelihood, the Nexus of Power you have detailed will take whatever measures it deems necessary, to arrest any development and progress in the direction that the people have chosen (as indicated by their votes).

 

That direction is firmly away from that which the Nexus considers essential.

 

It is inconceivable to it at any other direction to that which it has enshrined is possible, desirable or attainable.

 

What runs through its mind is not what is "best for the nation".

 

It is a matter of Absolute Ideology ......there is no compromise.

 

Ultimately it will stop at nothing.

 

That has been demonstrated before.

 

The unknown is, as you have alluded to, the willingness of the New Movement to also do the same.

 

If it has, or rapidly acquires, the necessary "willingness", then the implications are.......get the hell out.

 

Make no mistake, it is, quite definitely, a "New Movement" for a new state of consciousness among the population.

 

It is not the population of 2016, it is not the population of the......"Golden Age"

I don't think the EC will act for the Junta this time, and the senate will soon fade away.

The people have spoken and want change.

If change is taken away from them the can of worms will be opened and the country will slide into anarchy.

The west in particular and global countries will not look kindly on any military action to remain in power this time.

The election has given the people a voice this time and it should be honoured.

The election has all gone down just a little to smooth with the dinosaurs tripping over themself to say how they respect and support the election results 100% after almost a decade of iron fist rule.....
