Divorce in Thailand

Featured Replies

Hello,

Wondering about getting an uncontested administrative divorce in  Thailand. Would that be recognized in the USA? Was married in the US to a Thai national but now living in Thailand.

Maybe there is a thread on this already. Thanks!

Is the marriage already registered in Thailand?  I'd imagine that would be necessary.

Can a couple who married outside Thailand get a divorce in Thailand?

A couple who got married outside Thailand can get their divorce case filed in Thailand provided they meet with the jurisdiction requirement of Thailand courts. The jurisdiction requirements to file a divorce case in Thailand include the following:

  • At least one spouse must be a residing national of Thailand.
  • There must be a valid ground to register a divorce in Thai courts.

However, an administrative divorce can only take place if the couple originally got married in Thailand or one of the spouses is Thai national.

I did it twice. Make sure that your wife agree with the divorce . Some money will do the trick. ????????????????

At both Amphurs it was done practically in minutes.

Don't forget, that the person in charge will appreciate a little gift for good, speedy service.

So, if you married in two countries, say Thailand and the USA, and got an administrative divorce in Thailand, is the divorce recognized in the USA (or UK, etc)? Do you need to do anything in your country of origin to have the divorce recognized, or to remarry in Thailand?

Yes it’s recognized in the states and literally takes 15 minutes at the local government office in your district, and cost about 150 baht. I just went through it ????

as long as both parties agree

Party time. Once you get divorced, it is time to celebrate. My divorce was one of the smartest things I ever did, and I celebrated for 2 years afterwards!

If it is not working, it is time to move on!

I gave my Ex House, Car and some Money, divorce done in 5 Minutes! I'm not a cheap Charlie......

2 times. You must feel like a failure in terms of relationships, in general?
