Florida’s First Lady, and Second in Command

Casey DeSantis has advised her husband on media strategy and taken on some of the state’s big issues. The presidential campaign trail is next.

Ms. DeSantis, 42, is widely seen as perhaps Mr. DeSantis’s most important adviser. In the governor’s mansion, she advised on media strategy and helped vet personnel.

Now, as Mr. DeSantis enters the presidential contest, people who know Ms. DeSantis or who have encountered her on the nascent campaign trail expect that she will play a vital role in his most important race yet, seeking to shape perceptions of the campaign, build relationships with party stakeholders and to illuminate the personal side of her hard-edged husband, who sometimes struggles to connect

Translation: If we get DeSantis for president his wife will be the real power, just like the GOP claimed about Hilary and Michelle.

Republicans seem to have a chip on their shoulder, even DeSantis.  Is that why they're always pi*sed off at the world?

I Know , the first thing I look in a presidential candidate is his wife. Not having his wife on magazine covers is a disservice to the American people!! Stop the Steal !!????

Yes, Dark Brandon is plotting the minutia of fashion magazine covers - do people really buy magazines anymore. Very sinister. George Soros is said to be involved as well. Also could be a symptom of th

Depends on the individual.

Also depends on reality. At 82, there is a very significant chance that Biden would not survive his second term. Especially given the stresses of the job and his underlying health conditions. That means President Harris for the remaining time.  And that is scary.

Vice-President Harris in some (many?) ways has a situation similar to Vice-President Harry Truman in 1944:

How the nomination went to Truman, who did not actively seek it, is, in the words of his biographer Robert H. Ferrell, "one of the great political stories of our century".

The fundamental issue was that Roosevelt's health was seriously declining, and everyone who saw Roosevelt, including the leaders of the Democratic Party, realized it. If he died during his next term, the vice president would become president, making the vice presidential nomination very important.

Truman's predecessor as vice president, the incumbent Henry A. Wallace, was unpopular with some of the leaders of the Democratic Party, who disliked his liberal politics and considered him unreliable and eccentric in general. Wallace was the popular candidate and favored by the Convention delegates.

And Trump, at 78 in a couple of weeks would be such a better choice. Morbidly obese, never gets exercise, eats junk food. And no, golf is not exercise, riding around in a cart with a caddy carrying your clubs. Comparing the likely expiry dates of Biden and Trump, Biden will be around much longer.

She is alright I guess for the low standards westerners have.

My 30 year Thai gf puts her to shame.

Absolutely not.  I say both should hang it up, and soon.

Difference is that there is a chance that the GOP will nominate an obviously younger and more mentally healthy candidate (at least I hope so). The Democrats seem to be pinning all their hopes on Joe, to the point of not even running debates in the primary season. That alone tells you something.

Once your gf is 15 years older, has three kids, and survives cancer, let us know.

I think they will.  What's not been mentioned is that they'll be doing it predominantly on right wing media.  We've all heard that many Republicans only follow right wing media like Fox, OAN, Newsmax, etc.  These people live in an echo chamber as they avoid mainstream media.  They rarely hear negatives about Trump and DeSantis.  Well they'll be hearing a lot of extreme nastiness in the next few months.

You mean your preferred mainstream media caves that are full of praise for all things left but void of any other views?

This guy is much more likely to be "first spouse" before the wife of DeSantis.

Just saying as DeSantis has very little chance of beating the original maga Trump for the nominiation.

So how do you rate him?

Consider the myriad magazine covers that Michelle Obama got compared to Melania Trump. Now, only one of those ladies is a fashion model, so....

Typical myopic view of what the real reason for Melania's lack of magazine covers was.

As in First Lady tradition, Michelle Obama ran the 'Lets move' campaign   https://letsmove.obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/  aimed at solving the problem of childhood obesity. She was VERY prolific, jetting all over America to raise awareness and offer sound medical advice and was instrumental in shaping policy and instructing schools on how best to handle the obesity problem.  She also partnered around 3,500 chefs with schools in America, successfully pushed Walmart to lower the costs of fruit and vegetables, and helped the U.S. Tennis Association build more than 6,000 tennis courts across the country. Can you even remember Melania's? It was called 'Be Best' and it took her a year to even commit to a cause. Once she did, it got off to a VERY slow start, with very little push from Melania other than a few speaches and visits to childrens hospitals. It is widely regarded as one of the worst First Lady initiatives ever.

That's why she didn't get the same coverage as Michelle but sure, it's all about MSM bias.

Mainstream media covers all the news that is news.

Very weak tea that DeSantis.

This is a copy of the exact same complaint of Mr. Trump and his wife.

Is this supposed to steal Trump votes?

To be fair to trump, his paramours did get a lot of magazine covers, so there's that.

An unsubstantiated slanderous claim post has been removed.

Just what the country needs, a California lawyer (another one).  Any man who uses the phrase "toxic masculinity" in a non sarcastic way needs to be ignored.

Exactly. Compared to maga fascists Trump or DeSantis the prospect of a President Harris sounds wonderful.

I understand she isn't very popular. I don't care. Her politics are reasonable and she'd be competent to be president.

The constitution of every company on the stock market requires that the directors do everything legal in their power to maximise share value. This is a tenet across all public companies. Were they doing as you suggest it would damage their profits. That said, are right wing "non mainstream" media outlets telling the truth and "fair and balanced"?

Lots are not public. They still cherry pick stuff and use clickbait headlines. Dramatic headline, lightweight story.

Most people don't read past the first 2 lines.

She's the Vice President of President Biden.

By definition, review President Biden's policies.

That's how it works when you're Vice President.

The majority of big media companies are public. Only right wingers reading conspiracy sites read beyond the first 2 lines?

Fox shareholders are currently suing over this very issue of not protecting shareholder value.

Ask 10 people in a shopping centre to name 5 policies of the political party they voted for. Ask 10 people to name 5 scientific theories with formulas and backgound.

The average person barely reads anything. The media matches the audience.

I answered your question.

Again it's the job of a VP to support the president's policies and also to be there to replace the president if needed.

If that happens, then when she actually runs for the democratic party nomination, then she would represent how her policy positions may differ from other democrats.
