BBC reporting that Musk is pulling Twitter out of the EU.

No, he's not, read it again.

He's pulled out of some 'voluntary code'. Is it really voluntary if it's compulsory?

The EU is NOT just France and France does NOT speak for the whole EU though it seems that Digital Minister Jean-Noël Barrot' of France believes that he does.

They probably have the power to do so.

Most of the big tech companies are not paying their due taxes trough all kind of loopholes.
These loopholes will be closed after August.

Multinationals doing as they are told and losing profit?

Good luck with that.

"Disinformation is one of the gravest threats weighing on our democracies," said Barrot.

Roughly interpreted as "Disinformation should be the sole right of EU politicians".

No surprises here. The EU loves to over-regulate, ban, restrict. It's their MO. It's no surprise they are terrified of a free speech platform like Twitter.

If I was Barrot I'd be more concerned about the infighting resulting from the corruption scandal engulfing the EU, oh - and the fact that it's largest economy just went into recession.

I guess it would be nice to bury all that, hence the ever increasing restrictions on social media. Maybe they will go the way of China and ban the lot and replace it with their own version of WeChat?

Lordie, the lefty liberals have their panties in a twist as their end-to-end oversight of socials media begins to unravel.

The Old Twitter was a censorship cesspit. Babylon Bee banned because their satire hit too close to home. Trump and Tucker Carlson banned. Understandable you don't like them, but take away their right to communicate? Really? And the list goes on.

Not just this numpty French Minister who's terrified that Those Whose Voices Must Not Be Heard won't be silenced any more, but a whole array of power-hungry pols. Kick these weasels off Twitter instead, Elon.

UPDATE: Twitter Fails to Remove Hate Speech by Blue-Check Users: Report

Twitter is failing to remove 99 percent of hate speech posted by Twitter Blue users, new research has found, and instead may be boosting paid accounts that spew racism and homophobia.

Researchers at the Center For Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) flagged hate speech to the company in tweets from 100 Twitter Blue subscribers. Four days later, they say, 99 percent of the tweets were still up and none of the accounts had been removed.

The tweets, which included examples of neo-Nazism, antisemitism, racism, and homophobia, violate Twitter’s own hate speech policies, the researchers say.

WashingtonCNN —

A Fidelity fund has slashed its estimate of Twitter’s value amid ongoing chaos at the company, implying the social media platform may be worth only a third of its value compared to when Elon Musk acquired it in October.

According to a monthly disclosure, Fidelity’s Blue Chip Growth Fund reported that its stake in Twitter was worth $6.55 million at the end of April.
