webfact Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 Prachuap Khiri Khan is facing an alarming drought situation as water levels at the Pran Buri Dam have reached critically low levels. Officials have sounded the alarm over the severity of the crisis, prompting urgent measures to address the water shortage affecting the region. Pran Buri Dam, a vital water source for the area, including for Hua Hin, currently holds only 14-15% of its total capacity, officials have said. Despite the rainy season in Thailand officially beginning on May 22, the region has experienced little rain, with a less than average amount of rainfall expected throughout the remainder of the season. eisfeld Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 Weather is not consistent, that should not surprise anyone. Some years it'll rain more and some years less. If last year you ended up with a low point of say 20% then next year you might end up with 10% if it rains a lot less. Really no surprise. The consumption however steadily grows with more people and increased usage. That means each year you will run closer to critical levels. The only way to counter this is by building more water storage facilities like dams. Rationing is only a temporary bandaid. The real issue is that there was no proactive planing. Just reactive action when things are a real problem, that's when suddenly the responsible people see the issue. Too late.
