Thai Couple Shocked At Losing Camera Gear While Holidaying In Swiss Town

A THAI couple who run a travel Facebook page with a large number of followers said today (June 11) they were shocked that during a recently holiday in the Swiss town of Grindelwald a thief broke into their rented residence at night and stole valuable camera gear with this town have no surveillance cameras installed anywhere, Sanook.com said.

 

Mr. Piyanat Chalopakorn, or Nat, and Ms. Panita Panprom, or Aom, who run the Pai Gun Na webpage said one night during a family trip to this Swiss town a thief broke in and while they heard some noise they thought it was their parents going to the bathroom.

 

The thief opened the bag and took everything – Sony a7R V camera and matching flash light,  16-35  and 24-70 lens, two DJI Mavic 3 batteries, Osmo mobile and four GoPro batteries. He then zipped the bag and put it back in its place and fled.

Why open the bag and take everything, wasting time with people inside the building?

Just pick up the bag and go, dump the bag later?

I can only think to give him/her more time to get away. Perhaps a Swiss motorcycle taxi driver will find all the gear and return it.

Why is this news? Theft happens all over the world. The Swiss are not an exception. The only reason we know about this, is they they likely have alot of "followers" on their travel page.

Because people notice bags missing asap. A camera might not get used for 2 days. Why you not think about this is the question.

Then it must have been a very insightful thief, and that is certainly possible when it was a Swiss.

If I was a thief I would take my own bag, look like a tourist, wear a hat and glasses. Only take contents.

Thai's don't like to insure their cars let alone take out travel insurance

Especially in summer, when a lot of tourists visit Europe, one needs to be very careful. At Ibiza airport at the arrivals, I was stupid enough to put my laptog bag on the trolley. I bent forward to pick up my checked bag off the carousel, turned around to place it on the trolley, and wham ! - no laptop bag on trolley. CCTV coverage no help, police badly overworked. My brother was relieved of his handbag at Geneva airport while having a coffee. Skilled pickpockets operate all over the touristy areas, and sorry to take names, but Italy, Spain and France are especially dangerous.

Thai couple shocked: Police showed up for petty theft in the middle of the night and didn't request a "gift" for the insurance claim.

A review of CCTV installed elsewhere, saw the two tourists spending a lot of time looking at new camera gear in the airport duty free shops.

Yeah, then they must feel like home, but a little bit better treated. At least nobody fooled them by putting up cameras that later no work.

Most probably staying at BnB outlet judging that whole family staying in one spot. Upstairs and downstairs. Always use portable door alarm and jammers if staying in BnB outlets as their security is questionable with past renters who may have duplicated the key. Most rentals do not use electronic door security that can be changed after each rental.

The police do not even show up for this type of theft in the UK and much worse. They solve less than 4% of house break-ins. At least Swiss police do respond and show up. The sad irony is that our values have stooped so low that we view these thefts as "so what"' and accept that nothing will be done. Its the thin edge of the wedge and as long as society continues accept it is now a norm, then the crimes will increase in volume and seriousness in countries where policing is lax.

Yes, and airport area is considered to be, after you stamped out or before you stamp in to a country. In reality, no mans land, which means it can not be a part of the city, right?

Sounds iffy to me too.  Many years ago I knew someone who claimed on his insurance for a camera that had been stolen from his hotel room.  Only thing was he never had a camera .

Also in the '60s he made a claim for a stolen motorbike in London. He sold the bike to someone for 100 quid and gave him the bike key.  Horrible chap.

As already mentioned people / tourists get robbed in probably every major  country ????
