Democrats Face Backlash for Supporting Arrested Palestinian Activist Mahmoud Khalil
This process is practically unheard of, and it's dismissive to pass it off as just usual practice. 1. Normally, a warrant would have to be issued through a judge with presented probable cause, leading to initial arrest. 2. The charges would be disputed during a hearing with an immigration judge, and if deemed guilty to the charges, they could order to revoke his green card. 3. With no green card, he would then be deported. In this scenario, there is NO warrant, NO charges, and NO immigration judge hearing regarding his charges. His citizenship was revoked without due process by a political figure exercising a decades-old statute that has remained unused in this manner. There will be no due process during the upcoming immigration hearing; the judge does not issue green cards, they only handle charges and can request to revoke citizenship (which was already done). Khalil will just be deported because he has no permanent residency after it was removed *without* due process. It is disingenuous to pass this off as normal, as this case is the first of its kind. It is even more disingenuous to say that he has received due process because he hasn't. -

British TikTok Star Jailed in Thailand Over Visa and Benefit Fraud
This should be banned. It's far too generous. If you leave the UK and go live abroad, pensions should be banned. Go get money from the government from the country you moved to - tough luck if they aren't so generous. I have an uncle who lives in Canada, never been back to the UK for 20 years. Collects a pension, comes back to the UK for free health care, optician and dentist appointments. Then get's free hearing aid batteries (worth thousands). Before flying back. Utterly disgusting the sheer waste the UK government does. -

Thai Airways Reduces Luggage Allowance for Select Economy Fares
Was just talking about this with another group. They are nickeling and dimming us to death. The price of the ticket is just the beginning. If flying business class then you are paying through the nose so no worries. Personally I never saw any use in flying business on short flight. -

Ukraine war latest: Putin insists 'things starting to move' - but Ukraine says Russia 'tryin
Vladimir Putin and US officials have been expressing optimism about peace talks. But while Ukraine's president says there is a "good chance" to end the war, he and a key European ally say Russia is attempting to delay negotiations by insisting on various conditions. Follow the latest here. Russia's 'delaying tactics' must end, Macron says We've now heard from French president Emmanuel Macron, who said he had spoken to Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Sir Keir Starmer today to discuss the ceasefire proposal. In an online post, Macron followed in the footsteps of Ukraine's allies calling on Russia to accept the proposal, saying "Russian aggression in Ukraine must end". He also said there must also be a stop to "delaying tactics" - something Vladimir Putin has been accused of after saying there were "nuances" and "lots of questions" remaining over a deal yesterday. In contrast with Trump, Macron's comments echo those of Zelenskyy (see 16.38 post). The French president will join a virtual meeting of world leaders tomorrow, hosted by Starmer, aimed at building on the "coalition of the willing" - the countries which have pledged their support to Ukraine.
