When to blur car number plate in photos?

so the muuban manager where im living at the moment posted some of the wrong parked cars into our muuban line group, and kindly warned them to move or park another place.

 

then one of the car owner said that he should blur the number plates of the cars because its violating some kind of human rights or privacy law.. something like that.

 

so i was wondering if he was right or not. Or in what cases we should blur the number plate. What about the case i told you..

It started as security measure to protect important people (choose your own interpretation of that) from criminal acts, particularly terrorism and assassinations.

 

Now it's just become a habit that many think is a must do. no matter who they are.

A visible number plate means the car owner can potentially be identified with a registration search. It could be construed as an invasion of privacy; however, this is Thailand.

If whoever parked correctly, then they wouldn't have their photos taken, right? So what's the issue?

 

Locals seem to have issues with this public loss of face.

 

Wether or not they are blurred, the cars will still be identifiable, I should imagine.

I doubt if there is any law, reference to OP's.  I'll blur plates if in my photos, if I post somewhere, rare.  Just a courtesy, as wouldn't want my numbers posted.

 

Though I'm sure I've probably posted mine one somewhere.  Legally, in the USA anyway (I know, TIT), but in the public domain, there is no right of privacy, usually.

Your plates aren't blurred when you're driving around in public and anyone can see them, are they?   What's the big deal?

Obviously, that's the point of them!   The public does not have access to vehicle registration databases in order to get the owner's details.

Nonsense.   How can "invasion of privacy" apply to something that the owners of the vehicles publicly display 24/7?

You've misunderstood, I was referring to the juristic person not blurring the plates when posting the photos.

It is not uncommon to see cars with no plates in Thailand.

I would blur my number plates in the event that I did something wrong, didn't want to own to to it and fled the scenes..

Plenty of news articles with plate numbers shown, though sometimes they are blurred out too.

 

You could ask the police but they probably don't know what the actual law is either.

Do your eyes blur the plate when you see them in your Moo Baan in real life?    Then why would a photo need to be blurred?

In Theory as TIT: If private land then blurred, If anywhere in public not necessary, although apparently kids faces must be blurred.
