Plea for Help: Two Thai Women Deceived and Trapped by Traffickers in India

In a deeply distressing incident, two young women from northeastern Thailand, originally from Udon Thani and Yasothon provinces, are reaching out for assistance after falling victim to a deceitful trap while seeking employment as domestic workers in India.

 

Their shocking revelation exposes a grim reality of physical abuse, passport confiscation, and forced involvement in prostitution. Fortunately, news reporters swiftly alerted the relevant authorities to expedite the rescue efforts for these two Thai women, reported Thai Rath.

 

Late in the evening on June 26, 2023, a journalist received a coordination request from Nopporn Awamnuson, a local lawyer based in Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province. The lawyer shared the story of two Thai women, using the pseudonyms "May" and "Da," who had urgently reached out for help via an international phone call from India.

 

Distressed, the victims explained, "We were deceived and coerced into prostitution. If we resist, we endure physical assaults, beatings with belts, and they withhold our passports, effectively trapping us away from our homeland."

 

The journalist subsequently conducted an interview with the victims. They unveiled their journey, disclosing that they had traveled to India to work as hotel maids in Mumbai, enticed by a woman named "Apple" who promised them a monthly income of 100,000-150,000 Thai Baht (equivalent to approximately $3,000-$4,500).

 

Agreeing to a three-month employment contract, they purchased plane tickets to New Delhi on June 4, 2023.

 

On arrival "Apple's" husband strictly ordered them to stay in their rooms, restricting their access to the outside world. Their passports were seized, and they received meals from unidentified individuals.

 

As time passed, the victims gradually realized the severe danger they were in. Finally, on June 8, 2023, after enduring weeks of physical and emotional abuse, they managed to contact a compassionate Thai man who responded to their online chat messages.

 

Indian police officers arrived, taking them to a hospital for a thorough medical examination. However, despite the ongoing efforts, they remain unable to return to Thailand.

 

The journalist has shared all gathered information with the Pavena Foundation for Children and Women, the Immigration Bureau, and the Anti-Human Trafficking Division at National Police Headquarters, ensuring swift assistance for the two young women. The progress of the case will be diligently monitored and reported in due course.

That is the ridiculous and obviously naïve scenario that was presented to them. India may well have come a long way since I was last there... but I doubt finding cheap, unskilled labour is difficult there, requiring the import of expensive room cleaners. .

Generally, people in more remote parts of less-developed countries tend to have some fanciful ideas about how things are in the modern world.  When I lived in the sticks in Brazil at some point or another just about everyone I knew pulled me aside and quietly ask about something peculiar thing in the outside world. And they know life is astronomically more expensive.  For people making $80 per month anything with six or more figures can be beyond comprehension.

 

These poor girls saw all those zeroes and were knocked backwards.  Let's hear some good news.

yes .....    send them back to Thailand where they can fleece another unsuspecting farang out of a house & car and cash ....    easier than India and less risk.  !

Well we have TV/Facebook/newspapers....So you must be either extremely silly or you know there is more than cleaning, but you accept it, and think it is in a far away country so no one at home will know it (unlike working in a bar in Pattaya).
I think both is possible....there are silly people.

opens the question on what mistakes we don't spot in articles? And with that quality who know if it was 2 woman to India or maybe 3 men to Indonesia a year ago....

While I do feel sorry for these two women, I have to ask: What were you thinking?!?! 100k-150k to work as a maid in a developing country?!?!? Seriously? 

 

I've been saying this for years: people should have to take an IQ test before being issued a passport.

Stop going to those countries for jobs!

Husband of a staff in the company got offered to PAY 50.000 for getting a job in South Korea where he earns a lot in a few month and comes back.

The real story ends with the payment.....he paid and they were never seen again.

They have 3 kids, he has no job that why he tried to make some money....they ended with instead of no money with -50.000.

We hired him in the company against the rules that we don't take couples.....

Hard working good people, but you could sell them a beachfront house in Laos....

I met a girl and her only ambition in life was to be rich....and is not the only one. 

And can happen in every corner... how many girls out there are with some of us (lets say a 78 years old guy) and they are not happy just because of the money the foreigner provide...I see that...EVERYWHERE!

I can understand how someone might believe this kind of income is possible in New York, or London. But, New Delhi?

That is about $170 a month, or 5,400 baht. Survival instincts and the desire for preservation would compel the average person to research something like this first.
