A Thai woman lost her legs after she sat on a railway track in Pattaya in the early hours of this morning. Police revealed they will question the victim when she recovers.

A rescue team and officers from Mueang Pattaya Police Station were called to the incident scene at the Mueang Pattaya Railway Station at 1am today. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the 42 year old victim, Klongthong Phongwiset, in a pool of blood, and unconsciousness. Klongthong’s severed legs were also discovered on the track. The rescue team provided first aid and rushed her to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya.

The train driver, 44 year old Jadetaphan Pakaphorueng, reported to the police that the train was carrying 25 bogies of salt from the eastern province of Rayong. When arriving at the scene, he felt the train had run over something. He decided to stop the train to check and discovered the victim.

The police officers reported they would question the victim about the incident after she recovers. They are perplexed as to why she sat on the track in the middle of the night. It is too early to predict whether she had taken alcohol or drugs.

In the UK the victim would get a substantial compensation payout.

In Thailand, they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

Sounds to me that she was completely legless prior to actually becoming legless

I'll get me coat......

Haha good one????

But shouldn't get a single satang. Anyone stupid enough to sit, lay or sleep on the tracks...better to have lost their head, not a leg.

It happens rather often... drunken suicidal intent perhaps, I don't understand why. Perhaps they could save a life or two each year by putting a park bench near the railway crossings.

In the UK it is not easy to gain access to tracks, they are normally fenced off, especially around cities and towns. IME.

Climbing a fence when pished or on drugs not that easy IMO.

Interesting to see the usual moronic posts from such sensitive readers of AN, displaying their schoolboy humour. Again. It's not only Thais who have the mind of a child, is it.

It is indeed sad to hear of this incident. She was troubled; that's for sure. At least she kept her head.

there is no way he felt anything when going over the lady's legs

Agreed.  He was smart enough to know that saying "I saw her and tried to stop..." would cause a lot more explaining than "I felt something".

Didn't mean to imply it didn't happen often...nor that stupid people are in short supply????

Just that they shouldn't be entitled to any compensation for their stupidity and/or

self-destruction.

no. the pressure of the rail wheels seals both ends of the leg making it impossible to reattach. many trainmen have lost feet, hands and their lives this way. one car man (guys who inspect trains in yards) once got crushed between two coupling knuckles. he remained alive because his upper and bottom half were sealed between the knuckles. they called in his family for his last farewell. they then proceed to uncouple the train. he fell dead to the ground

But then she would not recover.

There is no doubt this woman was disturbed. Not alot of options here, for people with mental health issues. Thailand has deeply betrayed it's people when it comes to this area of health.
