billd766 Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Would it be possible to weed out all the posters who have not made any posts or responses for more than a year? 3
Popular Post george Posted July 27, 2023 Popular Post Posted July 27, 2023 Why would we consider that? What would be the pros? 5
gamb00ler Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 That seems totally unnecessary to me. Carrying an inactive user account on the books incurs almost zero cost, no degradation of performance and I can't think why it would weaken security in any way. What is the gain? 1
champers Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Some posters need to be able to call out people as "newbies". Removing inactive members wil make their lives so much less rewarding. 2
Popular Post KhunLA Posted July 27, 2023 Popular Post Posted July 27, 2023 You have something against members who simply enjoy reading and getting needed info. Some don't want to get involved with conversations with people they don't know. If not thick skinned, completely understandable. 1 2

At least once a day while I am logged in on ANN/TVF I get a message saying that there is a problem and the problem is always at the ANN/TVF server wherever that is. I click on reload and it comes back straight away. 1

Membership numbers is the gain. Forum with millions of posters is worth millions of Baht. Forum with 100 posters is worth nothing. 1 2 1

You could try asking I guess? The suggestion of deleting/deactivating dormant accounts is destructive and could potentially cause all kinds of issues for the software and, as I previously noted, is not required in order to get the data you're after. I couldn't figure out what the rest of your post had to do with your original suggestion.
Popular Post blackcab Posted July 28, 2023 Popular Post Posted July 28, 2023 Some very good observations here. Also, don't forget we have members who are settled in their life in Thailand and forget us. Then something happens in their life (health issues/divorce/bereavement/etc.) and they need good quality free advice. It's not unusual for a member to start posting again after a gap of a few years. 2 3

Nothing is stopping any poster after a few years away from re registering and starting anew. 1

What you are suggesting does not align with the way we run the forum. To be fair, I don't know any other large format forum that works the way you mentioned. 1 1
Andrew Dwyer Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 I don’t see the point of this suggestion in the OP other than someone has a poor internet connection, I suggest they get that seen to.
