If you were looking for a new relationship today what age gap would you aim for and why?

I would not only choose, but I would marry a girl between 90 to 100 years old.

Why ?

In my country, once a spouse dies, the surviving partner gets a widows pension of €220.00 per week (8,200+Bht) This is not means tested, but is taxable. So I could continue to work and not lose it. The only way to lose it is by re-marrying or co-habiting with a new partner.

There will come a point when I no longer exist. After that, I will not exist until time itself ends. What anyone thought of me, good or bad, will be absolutely meaningless. Since I know that now, while I still exist, I feel free to live however I choose. Following the laws of society is one thing, but no one is obliged to follow the laws of convention.

 

If a connection is made between two people, age is irrelevant. Maybe it's close, maybe not. As for 'things in common', since this is a Thailand Forum and most posters are Western, there is already a wide cultural gap that limits 'commonality'. Music, politics, popular entertainment, belief systems....these are going to be quite different even if the ages are similar. Two people will be forced to find other things that bridge gaps and meet on some common ground. That can be possible if the age difference is a year or 100 years.

 

As I age I will do what gives me pleasure, and as long as it's within the law, no problem. I have no intention of ever propagating my gene pool, not now nor when I'm elderly, so I won't be leaving any kid fatherless.

 

I like a woman who is positive, has a sense of humor, can dust off after any setback and move forward. Thai women can be sanuk-seeking missiles, and that's attractive to me. Maybe she's 21, maybe 41. As a man, however, I do rather prefer the feel of youth, and I do my part to remain as youthful as possible and not get flabby or weak or require a pill to be able to do the needful.

 

Anyway, it's up to me, not any other person's view of what's 'socially acceptable'.

Many young girls will gladly settle for a huge age gap - as long as he's loaded and the closer to death, the better.

 

We're not talking about real relationships here, but men buying young brides, or young ladies selling years of their lives for profit down the line.

 

When an expat finds himself single at an older age, say 50 plus, he needs to do the world and himself a favour and stay single. If he needs a caregiver - then just employ one.

I know what I'm talking about as I'm 28+ years older than my wife. The age gap was okay when I was a younger, but now it's too much. I know what it's like getting older with a much younger lady. Our relationship started in her late teens, now she's 35. If I could do my time over, I wouldn't have started this relationship... not for my sake, but for hers. Now she lives with a 64-year old grumpy old man that wastes too much time talking to other old expats on this forum.

 

I love the lady, but it's time to let her go.

I'm glad someone gets it. Now at 64 I have no more ambitions, just to live comfortably until I expire. She's young enough to still have goals and dreams. I'm holding her up... it doesn't help that things don't work as well as they once did (an understatement). I feel sorry for her and guilty that I've wasted much of her young life.

Lots of women of any age want a guy who takes care of them.

Why should a guy entertain a 50 yo woman who wants his money if he can have a 20 yo who wants his money?

If I had to choose now I would chose a much older woman because by that age both their eyesight and sense of smell is failing.
