Did you just arrive?, there are more illegal guns here per capita than the USA. Also the cops have been known to randomly shoot innocent people.

This social media nonsense is getting out of hand!

Agreed. But it actually started years ago with the 'challenges' that killed kids and has progressed to the point of utter idiocy.

They are now nothing but a metastasizing cancer on the internet.

Robbery Incident at Pattaya Viewpoint Turns Out to Be Bad Prank

A male foreigner was seen in a viral video clip flaunting a gun at a group of Kuwaiti tourists and allegedly robbing them at a famous viewpoint in Pattaya on August 2nd. However, it later turned out that the whole harrowing incident was just a bad “prank” orchestrated by the Kuwaiti tourists themselves, according to the Pattaya police.

In a 1.39-minute-long video recording, a man who appeared to be in his 20s to 30s and of foreign descent was seen. He was dressed in a black shirt, dark trousers, and stood at approximately 170 centimeters tall. The man held a pistol and ordered to line up and sit down a group of more than 10 foreign tourists, who bore a resemblance to Middle Eastern men. The man seemed to be threatening the tourists with his weapon.

The video was recorded at the famous Voice of Navy 5 Viewpoint located in Pattaya on Tuesday, August 2nd. It quickly gained massive attention on social media as the gun-wielding man also seemed to blatantly rob the tourists at gunpoint, raising concerns over the safety of Pattaya as a world-famous tourist destination

It was, and a very bad one that could have ended Tragically.

Not sure I would call it a tragedy if it ended badly. All these idiot YouTubers running around harassing people and creating trouble to capitalize on filming other people - usually without their consent - deserve anything they get. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

YouTube etc can easily solve this by banning or limiting monetization/ads for accounts that post fake/staged content, but they probably won't do it until a few "tragedies" actually happen and they get sued, if at all.

What about the laws against fake news? Anyone who actually watched the initial video should have seen that what is in there does not match what it was portraited as in the news stories. The stories completely misrepresented the situation and exagerated or even fabricated facts. Will there be any repercussions for the journalists for spreading false information? These are rhetorical questions.

These social media videos are really dumb and getting outta hand. The creators need to get a real job

I'd say 95% (made up statistic) of YouTubers are tossers, rising to 99% in Thailand. I wouldn't even give them the satisfaction of the title "creator". They do all indeed, need to get a real job!

"the tourists had uploaded the video to TikTok, but they never expected it to receive so much attention or damage Pattaya’s reputation"

"If it is determined that the two individuals intentionally damaged Pattaya’s reputation with their video, they will also face charges under the Computer Crime Act"

"the police will strictly proceed with legal action against any irresponsible content creators who produce content involving violent behavior of this nature without respect for the image of the country"

This thin-skinned focus on "image" and "reputation" is really something to behold.

For reference to clear any confusion (The Nation 4 August 2023)

The suspects (both Burmese) however, said the tourists asked them to make a video of a terrorist incident that was staged for the tourists’ entertainment............ The clip showed a young man dressed in black forcing a group of more than 10 Middle Eastern tourists to kneel or sit down in a row. It also showed him pointing a “pistol” at the head of one male tourist ............... The pistol, however, was just a cigarette lighter................ The suspects were asked to pretend to be members of a Thai gang that terrorised tourists to extort money from them.................. used a smartphone belonging to one of the tourists to film the enactment.
