But people were dumb as rocks back then.

Look at TV from that era, say Kath and Kim where you come from.

Music took a steep dive too after Post-Punk.

An 80's-dumb show 20 years later. In the country that held on to Minstrel shows to the end.

80's was peak Oz interest in the states, from Olivia to that shrimp "thrown" on to a barbie.

So peak stupidity and peak Oz interest made for a mentally relaxing decade.

The question was "Are people better now or back in the 1980's". The clear answer is back in the 1980's. Each year the world has more and more issues these days. Like with crime, mass shootings, all sorts of cyber-crime, corrupt politicians, drugs, gangs, unwarranted hatred of others, etc. Every year it gets worse. The 1980's is the clear-cut winner. MUCH better and safer world back then.

Michael Jackson

Madonna

U2

Vs hip hop gangsters and bimbos

Yep, I was a total dumbass then,

Yes, yes you were. Me? No genius either.

On everything from race to gays to capitalism, people were much more traditional.

And traditional is always code for stupid, but respectable.

Traditional food is the best. Just eat McDonalds if you want modern food.

McDonald's was first opened in 1940, that's hardly modern.

Look at successful YouTube channels with many millions of subscribers now and rethink your statement...

Kath and Kim was a very clever satire but if you're not Aussie you won't understand it?

Same as if you're not Aussie you won't understand the superfluous question mark at the end of my sentences?

Things are different, some better, some worse.

I think one of the big problems now is that everything happens so much faster than many years ago. Someone says or does something and likely minutes or hours later it is on the internet. And millions of people have an opinion about something without knowing any facts. And then people get canceled and lose their job - for nothing.

And then there are of course all those super loud narcistic activists.

I think all in all I am happy I grew up in the 80th.

Bogans swear non stop. Kath and Kim is not very realistic.

Which is crazy.

You must have missed the East West conflict.

It seems many people forget bad events which happened in the past.

Yeah, using a formula they'd perfected in the States for 40-odd years. Hamburgers aren't modern food, they've been around for at least a hundred years.
