Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai announce deal to form government

The Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai parties announced today (Monday) that they are joining hands to become the core in forming a new government.

 

Together the parties have 212 House seats and are inviting more parties to join their coalition.

 

Claiming they already have achieved a majority, they declined to reveal which parties they have in hand.

212 seats.. Anutin can be PM as he has 250 senators to support him together with his own party 79 is already  329. PPRP will vote for him too and Settha stays behind empty handed... Good move of Pheu Thai

- Thaksin will come back only if 'someone' agrees to it

- there is no popular support for yellow shirts any more

Newin’s Camp Jumps Aboard Coalition Headed By Thaksin’s Camp

THE BHUMJAITHAI under de facto party boss Newin Chidchob today (Aug.7) officially declared solid support for a coalition government and a prime-ministerial candidate under care of the Pheu Thai where deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is viewed as de facto party boss.

 

Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul and Bhumjaithai secretary-general Saksayam Chidchob visited the Pheu Thai headquarters, met with their Pheu Thai counterparts Chonlanan Srikaew and Prasert Chanthararuangthong respectively and signed a joint statement between the two parties underlining sustained efforts to set up the Pheu Thai-led coalition government.

 

Accompanying those prominent figures in today’s press conference was Thaksin’s right-hand man Bhumtham Wechayachai, who ranked 100th among the Pheu Thai party-listed candidates running in the May 14 election but ironically given the likelihood of assuming a ministerial seat in the Pheu Thai government.

 

Newin’s camp has invariably set a precondition in joining the Pheu Thai-led coalition to the extent that the Move Forward be eventually dumped out of it, prompting Thaksin’s camp to have taken steps accordingly.

Pheu Thai, Bhumjaithai Parties to Form New Coalition

 

BANGKOK, Aug 7 (TNA) – Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai parties have officially announced to form a new coalition government.

They hold a joint press conference at the Pheu Thai party headquarters to establish new coalition allies, beginning with the total of 212 House seats including 141 seats of Pheu Thai and 71 seats of Bhumjaithai.

They will later announce which parties will join the new prospective coalition.

Bhumjaithai party leader Anutin Charnvirakul said that his party agreed to join the Pheu Thai-led coalition under three conditions. Bhumjaithai will not form a minority government.

For sure this is the second to worse result, the first being Prawit becoming PM, but honestly, what is brewing? Nothing, from what I can see. Life will go on as per normal in Thailand, people will moan in the market as they have for the last however many years since Taksins departure, and that’s it.

I can't imagine the average Thai being happy with this. But the level of apathy we are seeing is surprising. I assumed millions would be in the streets. Goes to show you how little I know. With this coalition, more of the same. Nothing changes, no reform, no progress. Thailand continues it's backwards slide.

Any government that gets the full support of the 250 senators is bent or corrupt - end of. A government formed by these people is not what the electorate voted for - least the last coalition got over 300 MP with no senators, this lot have only 65% of the the last lot trying to form a government but can do so with block junta votes. Corrupt to the core. No democracy in Thailand
