Went to Deck1. Beautiful new building resembling an old teak house in a minimalist way. More like a Bangkok menu than a CM one. Best crab and betal leaf to date. Would go again.

Def like the location of Rim Na Tee, that one will be next. Prob been to Riverside 3 times in 20 years; it was always a Stickman/Lonely Planet recco.

But a lot of such places aren't open for lunch, so Deck1 was semi-full.

Kaloang Home Kithchen Wat Thewet.

Crappy location, Worst river view, weird waiters, best food.

Been loving it for 25 odd years.

This is their new location, and frankly it's even better than it was. Beautiful old teak building plus a superb view of the river and nearby temple. They also have not-loud live music (acoustic guitar). Singaporean owner. Their giant river crabs are one of their specialties, but all their food is top-notch. A tad pricey, you're most likely not gonna want to go there too often, but totally worth it for special occasions. Book in advance for a riverside table and then hope it doesn't rain.

Two, similar, one pricier than the other.

"Khin Lom Chom Saphan"  Beautiful location near the Rama VIII bridge, on the river.  Decent and reasonably priced Thai food, very good seafood.  Book ahead and ask for a waterfront table.  Very crowded weekends.  Most taxis know it. https://www.facebook.com/Khinlomchomsaphan

"Baan Klang Nam-1"    On the riverside also, beautiful views from riverside tables.  More upscale and expensive Thai menu, seafood a specialty.  Booking ahead a good idea for a nice table, especially weekends.   https://www.wongnai.com/restaurants/2431EL-บ้านกลางน้ำ-สาขา-1

-based on this review, I was gagging to go. But I couldn't find it on Google.

I'm going to do a minimum 1 riverside restaurant a week until I exhaust this list, no matter how long it may go.

The collection of specialist, upscale N. Thai restaurants along a very pretty river is very unique. The only comparable such place I can think of is The French Quarter in New Orleans.

Leaning towards Paak Dang next, due to archectural interest, tho Rim Na Tee keeps calling to me, being  well off of the main river restaurant strip .

I'm guessing if I show up right at 6 PM, I can have my pick of tables (no biggie if I can't).

I'd forgotten how beautiful that part of town is in terms of old teak houses. Any soi near a restaurant worth a wander for that?

Kaloang Home Kitchen. Just north of Thewes ferry pier.

Some rather confused people are recommending restaurants along the Chao Phraya, which was in Krungthep last time I boated along it. This is the Chiang Mai forum????

For what it is worth I enjoy the Thai food at Wanlamun near Wat Ket and for western food Nakara Jardin which is only open from lunch time until something like 7pm. Google is your friend. And for nighttime tapas and cocktails with the best rooftop views of the river try the bar on top of the Melia Hotel on T. Charoenprathet

Just read the headline not the .00005 point font saying it was Chiang Mai. My apologies.

Went to the fabled Riverside Restaurant.

Great food, but swarms of mosquito's. Prob down to the season.

Prices?

Like average. The specialty of the house, deep-fried fish with tamarind sauce was 400 baht. A Beer Lao Dark was 120.

Dead-empty at 6 PM on a Sunday. As we were leaving, another couple was arriving. All the places are strung together along a busy road and are a bit a bit samey. My stamina to try them all is waning. It's the same food as in Nimman. Not seeing a lot of N. Thai food so far.

Also tried the river-near, not river-side Mare Seafood, a tiny French-style zinc bar (inside a Rimping Supermarket), mostly dedicated to oysters. The deluxe dozen costs 1,600 baht, but those were the best I've had in a non-Japanese place in CM to date. Real monster-fatties, 4 kinds.

Surat Thani oysters seem more like huge clams. A decent place to get them is either Dukes, or Sub Seafood in the Old City (a venerable cheapie for quality raw bar).
