Popular Post newnative
I think this thread has gotten a bit off the track. While the discussion of the various ways to search out property, and the various areas and ways to live, etc., has been interesting and entertaining at times, it is not what the OP has asked for. To review, he is looking for a 1 bedroom seaview condo rental with at least 60 sqm as close to Beach Road as possible. Budget 25,000 baht. I have found only two that fit those parameters, Northshore and Markland. There may be others but that is what I have come up with. Northshore has 1 bedrooms ranging from 64 sqm to 80 sqm. Hipflat shows a few seaview choices in the 25,000 baht range. Markland has a few 72 sqm seaview units, also in that price range. These two projects are the closest to Beach Road that I know of, but, again, there may be others. For the OP, these seem to be the choices that come closest to what he is looking for. In his shoes, I would check the two projects to see what is currently available for rent and compare the projects to see which is the better of the two for the renter's needs. If neither project fits the bill, for whatever reasons, the OP needs to, at this point, modify his search parameters. View Talay 6, for example, would be a consideration if the OP is ok with a 48 sqm studio. One bedrooms at VT6 seem to be out of his price range but he could check with some agents or perhaps at the VT6 office. If he drops the Beach Road requirement, there are two projects on Second Road that offer seaview units in the 25,000 baht range, Centric Sea and The Base. Being newer projects, the unit sizes are smaller, with 1 bedrooms in the 30 to 38 sqm range. He might find a small 2 bedroom at either project in his price range. These would be around 50 to 60 sqm. Both projects are large, around 1000 units. No project is going to be perfect. You strive to come closest to what you are looking for. Sometimes, in order to get something you have to have, you give up something else that you wanted, but don't absolutely need. For the OP, I think Northshore comes closest to filling what he specified in his original post. In addition to filling his stated requirements, I think Northshore shines above the rest due to the small number of units, less than 200, and the size of the units, all 64 sqm or larger. The larger unit sizes attract more long-term renters, and there is less of a renter churn than at the larger projects with 700 or more hotel-size units. Location is also excellent. You can walk to Terminal 21, there is an international hospital almost next door, and Central Festival is just down the road via a baht bus. Disclaimer: I do not own or rent out any property at Northshore, it just seems to fit the bill the best. This thread is a good illustration of what I have often said regarding the 'thousands and thousands' of condos for sale and how can one ever find a buyer with so many on the market. As we have seen, as soon as you put in some search parameters, you greatly narrow the market. The OP had 3 of the major ones: location, unit size, and price range. To that, he added seaview. With just those 4 wants, you can see that the choices were narrowed down to just a handful, not 'thousands and thousands'. 1 2
Popular Post JimTripper
Has the op lived in Pattaya before? Maybe needs to do a month stay before signing a year lease. One sure thing about Pattaya is there is a large contingent of people/vloggers etc always harping on how great the place is, maybe people coming in for short stays who are horned up about a holiday or people trying to earn a living off YouTube. He needs to think about living here long term. Edited August 21, 2023 by JimTripper

I also don’t like the idea of getting old alone here without a family or support system. At least in the USA I would have a permanent property, could dig in and take it from there. It’s getting to the time I need to start thinking about that. In Thailand I’m renting places but it feels transitory even on a year lease. I also don’t want to live forever in a condo. Understood. You need a decent companion. Pattaya wouldn’t be my choice to find one. Maybe find a pleasant woman from the USA or a similar culture who would be happy to share a life with you in Thailand. Better to have someone with whom you can communicate in a deeper level. Rather than someone who simply depends on you for financial support. Lots of single women out there who aren’t gold diggers.

Finding a woman from the USA or a western country is not likely for me in Thailand. There’s just not really enough western women around to choose from. Even if that happened we still could not own land and a house. Your right though, CM and BKK are much better for meeting regular people. People in Pattaya have a lot of underlying problems, financial & otherwise. There’s something not quite right about people that just want to party all the time or live that lifestyle. It’s like they are trying to forget problems they have by distracting themselves with sex & alcohol. The message I wanted to get out was that even if you have a nice living situation it’s not very possible to ignore the environment that it’s in. In other words, there’s no free lunch. I’m paying less for a nice place, but paying more in other ways by not enjoying the city outside my unit as much (I moved to get a nicer condo but could not ignore the location). Maybe I will be happier in a smaller cheaper condo in a better area or maybe I will just damn the torpedoes and get a nice condo in a city I like better even if it’s more expensive. I only live once! Only 8 months to go, so not a huge problem. Will try to have fun while I’m here and enjoy myself as much as possible and not constantly complain, but Pattaya is not for me long term. What did you no understand about ‘no bars around here’? You CHOSE to live in the middle of it! Doh! It is very possible to ‘ignore’ the environment. The problem is inside your head. The dead horse you are flogging, is you. I have absolutely nothing to do with the sex industry and as such, it doesn’t figure in any part of my life. No one bothers me and I don’t bother them. Perhaps your issue is that you don’t know how to filter out the noise. Do you suffer from Tinnitus? For me, it’s nothing more than driving through a human zoo. I don’t feel compelled nor even tempted to jump into their enclosure. I focus on the things that interest me. The other things barely exist. There are many possibilities, the limitation is you. You mind is limiting you. 1

Someone who genuinely wants a 70 year old unadventurous man who doesn’t speak their language nor share their culture? What do you have to offer? Money? If you had hobbies, you could perhaps find someone who shared the same interests. That’s why I suggested that you find someone from your own culture, even if just to communicate and get your mojo back. The problem is you, not the place. I’m no fan of the centre, but I appreciate that by living close to a tourist centre, I have access to services/foodstuffs etc that might be unavailable elsewhere. So I found a nice place in proximity. I have a very good quality of life here. Of course it is lacking in some areas, but you learn to compensate. I had to communicate with Russians instead of Europeans. A difficult lesson ????

If he can ride baht bus then there are a zillion of them going down second road towards terminal 21/naklua and another zillion on beach road headed to walking street and beyond...bolts are always nearby... I looked at a LOT of condos and in the end am very happy with VT6....if i were him i would try to get there in september or no later than first of oct to have a better availablity of rooms as it does fill up in the high season months starting around mid oct/nov.... 1

Greater Pattaya is huge, consisting of a large number of different neighborhoods and districts, both on the Beachside and the Darkside. You live in the small tourist/entertainment area of Greater Pattaya and are judging the whole city on what you observe in your small, immediate area. Sort of like someone living right on the Vegas Strip, never venturing off it, and complaining that the whole city is just gamblers. The vast number of farangs living in Pattaya are not living where you are, and you are likely not running into any of them. The vast number of farangs living in Pattaya are not drinking next to you at this bar or that bar every night. Instead, they are living normal lives, doing normal things. I've said many times that my lifestyle didn't change when I moved to Pattaya--I do the same things I did in the USA, just more cheaply and with good weather year-round. I think that is true for many, as well. You seem to be unhappy with your life, perhaps because you are not living a normal life. Drinking alone at a bar every night is not normal; I would be unhappy in your shoes, too. As I said to another poster on the retirement home thread, you need to get out more--and go greater distances when you do venture out. You clearly have a distorted image of Greater Pattaya based on the small area that you never seem to venture from. You would find that most farangs are living in places other than the in-town tourist areas. They are in condos and housing estates in Jomtien, Wong Amat, Pratamnak, Cosy Beach, Na Jomtien, Naklua, and others. Many are in the hundreds of housing estates on the Darkside. Yes, you read that right--there are hundreds of housing estates on the other side of Sukhumvit, likely an area you have never been to. Maybe skip a day of drinking and do some exploring. I suggest a trip to Lake Mabprachan on the Darkside. Rent a bike from one of the venders and take a ride around the lake on the nice bike path. 2 2

Live in tourist central you see tourists doing what tourists do on holiday, there's nothing wrong with people wanting to party non-stop on a 2 or 3 week holiday. It's not representative of the balanced normal lifestyle I suspect the majority of us retirees lead, certainly the case with my wide circle of friends and associates I've known over the years.
