Fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will fly back to Thailand on August 22nd, the same day that parliament will meet to select a new prime minister.

Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Thaksin’s youngest daughter and head of Pheu Thai “Family”, said in her Twitter and Instagram posts this morning (Saturday) that she will travel to Don Mueang airport to meet her father, who is scheduled to land at about 9am in his private jet.

Thaksin had previously announced that he would return to Thailand on August 10, but he abruptly changed his plan, claiming that he had to see his doctor.

It is reported that authorities have already made preparations for his return, after 17 years of self-imposed exile. Thaksin’s aircraft will park in a special zone reserved for private jets and immigration officials will receive him upon his arrival.

Didn't some immigration officers just get "reassigned" for doing the same for a foreign celebrity?

I thought there were suggestions that PTP is allowing the military to stay in power in exchange for Thaksin being allowed to return?

It's obvious that Thaksin thinks he made a deal.

The question is: Does the person who made that deal feels like keeping it?

no doubt this is why Phew Thai sold out to Prayuts cronies so that their boss would be guaranteed a pardon upon returning to Thailand. stinks

Only when PT wins before:)

Part of the deal….

There was a time when I thought he would be good for this country and welcomed his return, now I wish he would just disappear for good.

  • Popular Post

Well, good luck with all of that ...

I note in passing that pardons come from only one person so no guarantees there, I should think.

Such procedures are normal for private jets. I once flew on one from Montreal to San Diego, and we parked in a separate area and were visited by immigration officials and processed onboard.

hmmm...i'm not going to hold my breath.

I wonder if he will do a tour of the north east to be greeted by his loyal support base ????

Just what Thailand needs in the current political situation - not.

It might be more tragic or it might be more entertaining, we shall see.

Why would anyone lie to someone as honest as Thaksin?

Does anyone know if there's a sarcasm emoji yet. I still can't find one.

And hopefully this time the voters will remember and don't forget this little detail in the next election.

It looks like he has been given a "Get out of Jail Free" card from the person that we cannot mention to pay off an old debt.

Aside from that, isn't it a great picture to show that  "Crime does pay" to arrive in his private jet, "hey, look at me".

Maybe China the big Brother has something to do with this .

One never knows what Strings they can pull, Thaksin an Offspring from China.

Just Thinking , Politics is a Very dirty Business.

You amaze me OMF, firstly you're not Thai so how do you know what goes on in Thai politics, even Thais don't know. I can assure you that Thaksin is not the only bad man in Thai politics. If a senior Thai MP wasn't totally  bent he wouldn't be a Thai MP in the first place. So why single out Thaksin, balance your posts out with substantiated stories instead of singling out one person. If Thaksin had've been eligible to stand at the last election, the senators would've packed up and moved on. Whether you like it or not the bulk of Thai voters are down trodden people from the country who support the Kingdoms needs by working hard on their farms. Where as you live in your luxury Bangkok apartment without a vote, which you must find quite discomforting at times.

LoL it's the best thing that could happen for the country.

Imagine the mileage that MFP will get.

PTp joining forces with the military

The military who have said all along he is a criminal welcoming him back.

This is definitely going to aid the MFP if they play it right.

BUt

What happens if sretha is defeated.

All MFp have to do is nominate prawit and all bets are off

So the warrant for his arrest because he fled the country before the conviction is not worth anything he flies around on his private jet. His other daughter fled the country she was convicted, so all is forgiven. Now I want to run the Red Bull. Kid  comes back will they have a parade for him. TIT
