webfact Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 In a tragic incident on August 20, 2566, at around 9:30 PM, a taxi plunged off the road, crashing into a construction post of an under-construction bridge over a canal in Bang Bo District, Samut Prakan Province. The impact ignited a rapid fire, engulfing the vehicle and leaving the driver burnt beyond recognition. The scene was located on Rattanakosin 200 Road, Moo 6, Bang Bo Subdistrict, reported 77kaoded. Local volunteer police, along with firefighters, rushed to the scene to extinguish the blaze that consumed the taxi. The victim was finally extricated from the wreckage, and medical professionals from Bang Bo Hospital examined the charred body. It's uncertain who the deceased driver was due to the intense fire, and the vehicle's documentation was destroyed. The accident happened near a construction zone with no proper warning signs or lighting. Eyewitnesses revealed that the darkness, combined with the lack of construction signs, possibly contributed to the driver's inability to see the construction post before the crash. soi3eddie Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 Driving in the day is difficult enough. One reason why I try to avoid ever driving, or being driven in darkness. RIP to those involved. 1
Bangkok Barry Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 And the supervisors of the construction company will, I assume, be jailed for manslaughter (sarcasm). This happens over and over again doesn't it, and no-one really cares. So many Thais simply are too lazy to do a job properly. Near enough is good enough, and sometimes people die due to their indifference. And much of the time there are little to no consequences, except for the victim(s) and their family. 1 1
ezzra Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 Unless the said construction was in the middle of the road, what is taxi doing veering off and plunging into a hole which is off road? 1
webfact Posted August 20, 2023 Author Posted August 20, 2023 Taxi accident: Fatal crash as vehicle plunges into Samut Prakan canal by Nattapong Westwood Photo courtesy of KhaoSod A tragic taxi accident incident unfolded today where an ill-fated taxi plunged into a canal and burst into flames in Samut Prakan province, resulting in the death of the driver. The unidentified individual crashed the vehicle, firmly igniting a mournful atmosphere at the Bang Bo Police Station. The devastating taxi accident was reported to have occurred at the bridge over the Wing Nok Canal on Rattanakosin 200 Year Road, Village Number 6. The successful extinguishing of the vehicle by authorities took a total of fifteen minutes. Strikingly, the vehicle was completely consumed by fire, leaving the driver indisposed and unidentifiable. Any personal identification documentation was also destroyed and rendered untraceable. Even the front and back registration plate numbers were severely obscured, with only a metal wristwatch unidentifiable in make serving as a potential clue. PETERTHEEATER Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 I too have noticed that, when driving at night, it is dark. Has anyone else experienced this? 1
seajae Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 there is always big problems with no safety signs/lighting on roads during any road work, we have had a few close calls over the years. Biggest one is when they dig up a lane to put pipes etc in, leaving a 2 metre deep hole in the road then do not put up barriers, warning signs or flashing lights so they are hard to see of a night even with lights on high beam so you often dont see the work till you are virtually on top of it although when they do put up flashing lights they are generally stolen fairly quickly. Unfortunately safety issues are often ignored by contractors in Thailand and with poor lighting on roads it just makes it that much more dangerous, road work is done by the cheapest quote so poor materials and safety concerns are always in the mix 1

Professional driver for 30 years ( I am not claiming to be perfect) sometimes in the hours of darkness at road works I am completely at a loss to where I should be, why is there a trench with no markings, or, the tube lighting is so bright it's worse than a set of headlight in your face, c'mon Thailand this is basic stuff. 1
