Thai passengers ejected from flight over luggage dispute, recounts top influencer

Prominent YouTuber and influencer, Akaradej Yothajun, known as Benz Apache, recently recounted a dramatic incident aboard a flight from Vietnam to Thailand. He reported that 16 Thai passengers were asked to disembark the plane following a dispute with cabin crew over assistance with luggage.

 

Akaradej, who was also on board the same flight, shared the story on his Facebook page, Benz Apache. He detailed how the dispute began over a request from a female passenger for help with her luggage, which escalated into a heated argument. The disagreement led to a group of passengers loudly voicing their dissatisfaction with the cabin crew’s response, resulting in the entire group being asked to leave the plane.

 

Akaradej, who was seated a few rows ahead of the group, described the situation as chaotic and disruptive. He stated that only three to four people in the group were confrontational, while the rest were calm and polite.

The best response that I have heard of from a member of a cabin crew is 'Our job is to save your ass. Not kiss it.'

On a more serious note, most passengers seem to assume that it is the crew's job is to serve them.

It's not.

They are there for passenger's safety. The rest is just a bonus.

Don't take it onboard, check it in like normal people do.

My thoughts too. If you can't lift it up, it is too heavy.. Aged passengers and pregnant women excluded. I used to hate traveling in the USA with all the road warriors there!

If the lady couldn't lift her bag into the storage, why did she not ask one of the other members of her group? Or should I say why didn't the men in her group offer to do it for her?

I guess because they expect someone below them in status to do it. The 'servant' told her to do it herself and she couldn't handle that.

I have a friend who was a longtime FA on a US airline.  She told me that the FAs flight pay does not begin until the doors are closed and that they are specifically told not to assist passengers lifting bags into overhead bins because if they were injured doing so, they were not covered.

And it is 'supposed' to be a maximum of 7 kg, ONE per passenger..

VietJet isn't the best airline, but you get what you pay for.

Maybe these Thais thought that they were more special than other passengers.

It seems a bit unfair for the whole group to be kicked off if only a few were being bad... but maybe they booked the flight together and that was the only resolution.

This saga does raise an issue. I am now nearly 78 and during my seventies i have noticed a distinct deterioration in my muscle mass such that, although I am basically reasonably able, I really can't lift much above my head any more. I try and keep my hand luggage to the minimum and I've always attempted to get it into the overhead bin unaided. Almost without fail a younger passenger or a flight attendant assists me as soon as they see me struggling, for which I am truly grateful. For this group of passengers to encounter the problems that they did  they must have aggravated the situation in one way or another.

What a bunch of crapola. That's why they have business class, first class.... so that cabin crew can kiss your behind and you can feel special. Not to mention all the dolled up asian crew members. That sure comes in handy when the plane nosedives.

Probably someone who is used in Thailand to let everybody work for him/her as he/she has a higher rank job.... A dispute from 1 person and 12 others are involved... and nobody of the 12 could help the passenger??? Some people think the own the world and everybody has to do as they say.. But that is only in Thailand, not outside in the normal world

it’s likely more about attitude than the actual baggage.

 

- Person asks for assistance & gets a ‘not my job’ response. 
 

if either approached the situation with ‘attitude’ it’s going to trigger the other. 
 

TG crew can be amazing, they can also be outrageously snooty & lazy. 
 

On a 6 hr flight (with my Son who was 5 at the time), I wanted a beer (had 1 beer with the meal before that), the cabin crew had not passed through the cabin for 30mins, I’d normally get up & ask, but didn’t want to leave my son alone.

I rang the call button, FA came & in an extremely snotty manner told me I have to go & get the beer myself !!!

I was furious.

I agree, I see people on flights attempt to take carry on baggage over the weight limit and size, don’t they ever read the what baggage allowances are or just pushing their luck.

 

Try doing it on an EasyJet ot Ryanair flight, Servisair / Emirates at Newcastle weigh your carry on baggage and on many occasions I have witnessed people being told it’s too heavy/large and they then are frantically trying to put it in their hold baggage.

I always get concerned when passengers are putting heavy bags in the overhead lockers, if they accidentally slip from their grasp they could do a passenger a serious injury.

When B.A. used to fly from Heathrow their carry on baggage limit was 25kg but the size of the bag limited, try lifting 25 kg into an overhead locker.

Hats off to the airline for dealing with these clowns properly. Was it really necessary though to promote some nobody Thai Influencer as the reason the story is being reported? Couldn't some journalist have actually done some research i.e done their job and not given this influencer the airtime.........? Most of the people I know are sick to the back teeth of these so-called Influencers as it is. Best not to encourage them.

I fly very, very frequently between Udon and Bangkok on Thaivietjet Air. It is utterly disturbing to see all those quality Thai passengers embarking the plane with not only one but up to four cabin bags. 

On top of it you can take it to the bank, that every flight includes up to ten of these pizza-boxes of Krispy Kreme which are on sale at the departing airport. All those quality flyers have not realized yet, that the same Krispy Kreme stuff (sugary calorie-boosters) is available at the destination airport as well. All this is not only a total mess but unnecessarily delays boarding and punctual departure. 

I had discussions with fellow passengers and their tremendous avalanche of cabin luggage. They have no problem in taking my small bag down and just put it on a nearby seat in order to put their outsized stuff in. 

So I congratulate the inflight manager to boot off those unruly semi-divine Thais for misbehavior. The luggage limit is set to seven kilogrammes and you can only imagine, by how much said cabin bag(s) exceeded that particular limitation.

They're obviously pushing their luck...  and I don't blame them. 'Some' airlines are trying to fleece people and profit from baggage charges - all this extra baggage significantly slows up security and makes the cabin less safe.

Airlines should be forced not to charge for check-in baggage and encourage passengers to check in their baggage not charge for it.

 

This whole approach many airlines take to check in baggage is upside down in my opinion.

As a result I avoid the budget carriers like the plague, when pricing they are often more expensive when I add the check-in baggage options.

I absolutely agree, which is why airlines should be more concerned with passenger safety and encourage passengers to check in the their baggage rather than charging them extra. 

That said Thai Airways / Thai Smile do not charge extra - I'm not sure which airline this was.

I've never had my check-in baggage weighed with any flagship carrier, I carry as little as possible on the flight unless making a layover (check-in baggage through to final destination).

I see loads of people with huge-carry on bags - its just the norm these days. 

Budget carriers are obviously setting a different precedent.

How many of these do you actually come across in your daily life ????... 

... or it the term influencer which rubs you up the wrong way, as if someone is suggesting these people could be influencing you somehow, so you naturally object...

It depends on the check in staff when there is a limit on carry on baggage, they don’t like confrontation so just ignore the oversize or number of bags.

Another whinge when flying, it states clearly on your boarding pass a zone for what order to board in unless you are infirm or travelling with children.

Its amazing how many passengers apparently ignore the zonal boarding only to be stopped, they forget there is a seat for everyone. I some times just wait to everyone has nearly boarded to avoid passengers who crowd round the gate waiting to board blocking the way for others.

It's annoying. Especially the Thais who carry these oversized huge boxes of donuts on board that they bought just before departure. They block the overhead compartments for everyone else.
