PM Vows to Crackdown on Corruption

Featured Replies

Annual vow to crackdown on corruption.  Dovetails nicely with my also useless, never-going-to-happen annual vow to lose 10 pounds.

Not going to happen it's part of the Thai culture system

Paying off bribing people call it what you will ????

It's gone on for so long it will take years to change people's mindset

Unlikely to improve unless government officials have a higher pay, or those that produce the data are paid.

Great idea but he should have taken a closer look at the ministers he has just appointed, many of whom have been involved in criminal activities and numerous corruption scandals and all of whom are anxious to recover their election outlays pronto and start making a profit before the government collapses. If he really attempts to stop them and Thaksin from making fast money, he will be dumped faster than Thaksin originally planned to get rid of him.

Anyway how clean is Srettha himself? There are the Chuvit allegations and the time he spent as a “special advisor” to Yingluck in the thick of her rice pledging scam. He doesn’t look like an innocent.

Has a familiar ring to it............a certain Army general said the same thing 10 years ago.

Day 1:  Appoint a convicted heroin trafficker to his cabinet.

Day 2:  Vow to crackdown on corruption.

Amazing Thailand, indeed !

Great comment, spot on, well said.

Further, nobody seems to be challenging the ministerial appointment of the guy who did 5 years in jail in Australia for drug offences.

It's also clear that this guy is ruthless and powerful and therefore nobody game enough to challenge him.

How sad for Thailand...

I thought Cha Cha had fixed the corruption issue?

Thailand rates 101. Is that good or bad?

Better than Cambodia, Burma, and Laos.

Go Thailand!

So little trust I have in them after 33 years doing business with them here.

BANGKOK, Sept 7 (TNA) — Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin announced during his keynote address at the Anti-Corruption Day 2023 to eradicate unethical practices including the buying and selling of state officials’ positions and his government will bring in technology to help us achieve transparency of the public sector.

Speaking at a forum to mark Thailand’s Anti-Corruption Day on Wednesday, Mr Srettha, who is also the Finance Minister, said Thailand is ranked 101 globally in the Corruption Perceptions Index, and fourth in ASEAN. The event was hosted by the Anti-Corruption Organisation of Thailand (ACT) at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal in Bangkok.

In addition to create direct damage to the public sector, he said, corruption problems also caused distrust among investors which could lead to the economic recession and continuous impact against the GDP growth as well.

33 years I commend you should have a statue symbol of endurance and fortitude.

Your experience and opinion a minority would consider it Thai Bashing.

If a person don't have their head in the sand something at state it is impossible not to see what is going on so wrong here which let me say it first before someone jumps to it " it does happen else where "  But that isn't what we are discussing.  The lies that come out of every leader mouth they do it with a straight face maybe all the hair dye being used had some effect. ????

Seems to become a standard slogan and tag line of each and every government of this country - still going strong after 40 years!

Good luck with this idea, Mr. S., it would be good for Thailand.

But when I read your list of your and the former military ministers etc., I recognised - it's impossible.

It's the same dream as if I would think to whin the lottery-jackpot. A chance by 1 to  more than 100 million and higher.

I agree. But because I'm pedantic I have to point out that the chance of winning the Thai Lottery jackpot is exactly 1 in 1 million.

Show Thai people what this really means.

Release the investigation report from NACC for Prawit's watch scandal.

Release the report produced regarding The Boss investigation that Prayut said he would release and never did.

Get the whistle blowers amnesty to return to Thailand.

As we all know, the whole raison d'être for ignoring the result of the election to install this government of brigands is allow the old guard to maintain control and keep their myriad corrupt schemes alive to fleece the taxpayers. Srettha is a part of that and all he says about anti-corruption is just play acting.

I'm not suggesting MFP would be totally clean in government. They are already showing they have a number of bad eggs.  But the last thing the establishment want is those young orange politicians in power trying to take away their iron rice bowls. How will they be able to afford mansions, fleets of S classes and overseas educations for their brats on government salaries?  MFP in opposition is scary enough for these people, e.g. an MFP MP just demanded to know why the permanent secretary for higher education has been on 32 overseas "business" trips in 15 months.  He is currently in the US and will be in Mexico in a week's time. He is the senior civil servant in the ministry but chooses to spend nearly his whole time swanning around abroad at taxpayer expense, assuming he actually went on the trips at all and didn't just claim the expenses.

He must be some brownie points for being so quick off the mark with the statement.

Pull the other one will you. Politicians only seek to get into their positions to strengthen their wealth or create more of it for themselves, hmmm that makes me think, where is the USA ranked as the Biden's come to mind.

Completely off topic.

If you want to whine about President Biden, there are plenty of other threads you can use.

WOW that is good news, now for those requiring a Cert of residence, all will get a receipt for the 'express' service and any other 'express' service from a government official.

I got a receipt for my certificate without even asking, as I have for every other transaction at the IO at Kamphaeng Phet. Not ALL IO's are the same or corrupt.

The problem with anti-corruption policies in Thailand is that, if they are effectively applied, there won't be anyone left to enforce them! ????

i was going to say - it s almost copy and paste what Prayut said when he took power.

Has the present unelected PM said "There won't be a coup" yet? Oh! Wait! There are still some soldiers "serving" in this government, right?

Ok big boy....bring to justice all of the corrupt govt officials, judges, police and others who have enabled mr red bull to kill a cop while speeding and jacked up on coke for a decade....if you are willing to stand up to those powerful corrupt people just maybe somebody might take your claims of cleaning up corruption semi seriously.

I won't hold my breath as there are likely lots of nice London flats, southern France villas and off shore accounts that have been well stocked to prevent the little spoiled rich brat from every being held accountable.

???????????????????? The PM that nobody elected, the PM that became PM directly through corruption will now crack down on corruption. Words are cheap here aren’t they?

The last unelected PM said there will be no coup, we all know how that ended up, then led a country full of corruption for nine years, now this also unelected PM  has said much the same thing. Are they really so stupid that they actually think that anyone will believe them?
