Yeah, the only thing Cambodia had of attraction was it's cheapness.

Unfortunately, Thailand too.

And loads of Arabs

It does baffle me.

What would a family of Arabs want with Bangkok? And they always stay in Nana. Lol

They ain't here for the temples, food, booze, or women.

Why come to Thailand?

Last time I was in Cambodia it was $15 a long time (and no bar fines). Lol

I actually know people who went to Cambodia specifically for the 50 cent beers.  Telling people how great it is because the beers were 50 cents as their number one reason to go.

The same people may not go now due to the higher prices.

Interesting what motivates and excites people.

If the prices increase in Asia a lot of expats and tourists will have no where to go . The expats will have to return to their own countries and collect public assistance.  The tourist will just have to stay home and get drunk.

Dumpier and dirtier, but a good option for some still who are concerned about more things than the price of a beer.
No political protests like coming to Thailand soon ????
Plus
8.25% pa interest on 12 month term deposits, paid monthly. Or 8.5% paid on maturity
No 90-day reports
No seasoning money or minimum bank account balances for retirees.
Oversupply in the condo market so better purchasing power than in Thailand.
However,
Most FMCG and a lot of fresh produce come from Thailand so more expensive than Thailand.
Fly to India for good quality medical at affordable prices, same as if in Thailand.
Street food is possibly toxic and best avoided. It's all crap anyway.

'Do love a graze of Stickman on a Sunday morning. Anyone else follow him?

Forget Phnom Penh, come to Siem Reap with its post-Covid extensive infrastructure improvements - far more civilised (IMO)

No political protests... I think that doesn't sound as good as you meant.
Higher interest rates than in Thailand because the Riel depreciates
faster than the Baht. Almost 8% in one year. If you want to collect
your money and convert to EUR or USD, there is no significant advantage.
Condo: unless you want to keep it for life, the oversupply will work
against you when you try to sell.
Top medical care: I see a specialist or another every month, unfortunately,
should I fly to India that often?

Back to beer... do people really choose a place to live because of beer price? That is sad. Anyway, Thai beer sucks anyway and I drink (rarely) only imports and not in bars.

Would point out many Cambodian banks have USD accounts and pay interest in USD.

No need to convert anything.

I know nothing about the Cambodian financial sector. How 'regulated' are the banks say compared to Thailand? Especially if you are not a local.

I can't see Asia ever being more expensive than back home

Last time I was in PP, it was $10 for short time (2 hours), and the bar fine was $1! Usually picked 2 or 3. I knew that was not going to last!

Everything has changed. It is a different planet. Fortunately, Thailand is still both reasonable and very, very pleasant. Some of us live very good lives here. I am grateful for that.

I am in Phnom Penh at the moment, and I can't even be bothered to go to the bars anymore. It has been going downhill ,and more expensive, for over a decade. The freewheeling days of 20/25 years ago are long gone, and they will never return.

Disagree with Stickman on roads and rubbish. The roads in Phnom Penh are continuously improving, even the traffic is a little better now than 5 years ago. At least PP has recovered from the Pandemic at least as fast as Thailand. Battambang has not. Roads, pretty decent 10 years, are full of potholes. Looks like they haven't resurfaced anything in ages. As a cyclists you notice these things.
