BANGKOK (NNT) - Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has expressed deep regret over the fatal shooting of a veteran police officer at a local influential figure’s residence in Nakhon Pathom.

The premier affirmed that his government does not condone the practice of buying or selling official positions, in response to speculation that the incident may have been related to conflicts over such appointments.

The tragic incident occurred during a meal hosted at the home of the chief of Takong sub-district in Nakhon Pathom’s capital district. Among the guests were several local police officers.

Royal Thai Police Deputy Commissioner Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn revealed that the crime scene had been tampered with, including via the disabling of CCTV cameras, removal of blood stains, and disposal of bullet casings. He noted that despite the presence of three superintendent-level police officers at the scene, evidence was still allowed to be destroyed.

The prime minister urged authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter, stressing the impact that unfair allocation or purchasing of official positions could have on the morale of dedicated civil servants.

Over 20 cops were in attendance; now we know about how many 'several' are.

The thorough investigation will be money changing hands and some wai's that's it, the employer the headman is not getting a mention as he fades into the background and his 2billion stash gets a bit smaller no doubt ????

Corrupt to the very core, and the higher up you go the more it exists.

I can't help but think being shot dead for refusing to make a promotion is more the issue here.

This one will die down.

It is amazing how well they can control a "situation".

The original alleged murderer has apparently killed himself.

A few top Pol. Generals have been inactivated.

A few may be prosecuted.

The rest will be swept under the rug.

Yes, a "thorough" investigation will be completed.

And some people still think they are something other than just an organised criminal gang in uniform. ????

Please define thorough.
The cover up began when the gunman was killed.

Well he could do what MoveForward did and call out the Police and highlight the problem, but Srettha is weak, incompetent and puppet, so he just spouts platitudes because, quite frankly, he is not a leader.

Paying for a position, or leveraging your birth-right, is just part of the Thai National Psyche. Nothing can be done about it.

POLICE ‘HAVE NO DUTY’ TO EXPLAIN ‘ELEPHANT TICKET’ SCANDAL

BANGKOK — Police top brass remained silent Monday on the bombshell revelation by an opposition MP that police officers can advance up the ranks just by securing a letter signed by powerful figures, without having to go through the formal channels.

Move Forward Party lawmaker Rangsiman Rome showed evidence of the shortcut, known as “The Elephant Ticket,” during a censure debate on Friday, and accused Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and his deputy Prawit Wongsuwan of turning blind eye to the alleged corruption. But a police spokesman said the force isn’t required to provide any response.

“The opposition MP made the accusations against the government, so the police have no duty to respond,” Col. Kissana Phathanacharoen said. “However, the police may verify the content and authenticity of the police appointment documents published online.”

So will the police be doing the investigation, the story they come up with should be interesting.
